Leading electric two-wheeler maker Ather Energy Ltd is preparing for its next phase of growth with the launch of its new EL platform, nationwide expansion and greater focus on software, as it targets the fast-growing mass-market electric vehicle segment.
The company is also expanding manufacturing capacity and strengthening its connected vehicle ecosystem to support rising demand across India.
EL platform to drive growth
The EL platform represents its first new vehicle architecture since the launch of the 450 series and will power its next generation of products.
The company is targeting the ₹1 lakh-₹1.25 lakh segment, which it sees as the next major growth opportunity as millions of consumers shift from internal combustion engine two-wheelers to electric vehicles.
Management comment
“Looking ahead, three priorities will shape our next phase of growth: the EL platform, national expansion and software.
The EL platform gives us the ability to scale new products faster and more efficiently while preserving the engineering principles that define the Ather brand,” said Co-Founders Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain in a letter to shareholders.
National expansion
Having established a strong presence in South India and expanded across western and central India, Ather plans to extend its operating model across the rest of the country during FY27.
The company said India’s EV adoption varies by region, requiring a market-by-market strategy built on product quality, service and dealer partnerships.
Its market share in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states rose to 17.3% in the fourth quarter of FY26, demonstrating the success of its expansion strategy beyond southern markets.
Manufacturing capacity
Ather currently has an annual production capacity of 4.2 lakh units at its Hosur manufacturing facility.
The upcoming Factory 3.0 in Maharashtra will add another 5 lakh units of annual capacity, supporting future product launches and enabling faster scaling of the EL platform.
Software ecosystem
Software will remain a key pillar of Ather’s growth strategy.
The company plans to further enhance AtherStack, its proprietary software platform, as its installed vehicle base expands.
The platform will continue to improve the ownership experience through connected features while strengthening the value of Ather’s ecosystem, which also includes the Ather Grid fast-charging network.
Over the past 12 years, the company has built an integrated ecosystem comprising AtherStack, Ather Grid, manufacturing facilities and an expanding retail network to support long-term growth.
