CW Bureau ·

Kia India has teased the arrival of the Sorento, its globally acclaimed flagship SUV, marking the company’s entry into India’s hybrid SUV segment and further strengthening its premium product portfolio.

The Sorento, which will become Kia India’s first hybrid SUV, is set to bring the Korean automaker’s global flagship to Indian shores, combining electrified performance, advanced technology and premium features.

Ahead of its official launch, Kia has commenced pre-bookings for the Sorento through its dealerships and the company’s official website.

Kia enters the hybrid SUV space
The launch of the Sorento underscores Kia India’s strategy of expanding beyond conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and battery electric vehicles (EVs) by introducing hybrid technology to cater to customers seeking better fuel efficiency without compromising on performance or driving range.

The move also positions Kia to compete in India’s rapidly growing premium three-row SUV market, where consumer demand for electrified vehicles is steadily gathering momentum.

A global success story
First introduced globally in 2002, the Sorento has evolved through four generations and has become one of Kia’s most successful global models.

The company said the SUV has sold more than 4.8 million units across 132 countries and ranked among Kia’s top three best-selling models globally in 2024 and 2025.

The premium SUV has also earned several international accolades, including the IIHS Top Safety Pick, a 5-Star NHTSA Safety Rating, and Car and Driver’s Editors’ Choice Award, reinforcing its credentials for safety, quality and performance.

Bold design and advanced technology
While Kia has revealed only teaser images, the Sorento showcases a commanding SUV stance with a tall silhouette, strong shoulder line and wide proportions.

The front fascia features a distinctive illuminated lighting signature with angular LED daytime running lights and a two-tier lighting arrangement, reflecting the brand’s latest global design language.

The India-spec Sorento is expected to feature Kia’s latest connected technologies, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), premium interiors and hybrid powertrain technology.

Strengthening premium portfolio
The Sorento’s arrival marks the next phase of Kia India’s premiumisation strategy as the automaker expands its presence in higher-value SUV segments.

The company believes the flagship SUV will appeal to customers looking for a combination of luxury, technology, safety and sustainable mobility, while complementing its existing SUV portfolio in India.

The launch is also expected to strengthen Kia’s position in the premium SUV market as competition intensifies with global and domestic automakers introducing hybrid and electrified models.
