Deccan Gold Mines Ltd has crossed a significant milestone in its evolution from a mineral explorer to a gold producer, successfully producing its first gold dore from the Altyn Tor Gold Project in Kyrgyzstan.
The achievement marks the first time India’s only listed gold and critical minerals resource company has produced gold doré, validating the integrated processing circuit at the overseas project ahead of full-scale commercial production.
The company said the maiden gold doré was produced after processing gravity circuit concentrate through the project’s newly installed Intensive Leach System (ILS). Gold recovered from the leach solution using the Merrill-Crowe process was subsequently smelted into gold dore.
Transition from explorer to producer
The successful trial assumes strategic significance for Deccan Gold as it marks its transition into the production phase after years of exploration and project development.
While the initial production batch was primarily designed as a proof-of-concept exercise, the results demonstrated that laboratory-tested gold recovery rates could be replicated under actual operating conditions.
This substantially reduces technical risks associated with the processing flowsheet and provides greater confidence as the company moves towards commercial mining.
For mining companies, validating metallurgy and processing efficiency under field conditions is one of the most critical stages before commencing commercial production, as it confirms that projected recovery rates can be achieved consistently.
Major de-risking milestone
According to the company, the successful run confirms the metallurgical leachability of the ore and validates the operational viability of the upgraded processing circuit.
The milestone also establishes a strong foundation for scaling up production while strengthening confidence in the project’s commercial potential.
With global gold prices remaining firm and demand for critical minerals rising, successful commissioning of producing assets could significantly enhance Deccan Gold’s long-term revenue profile.
Company eyes next phase
Deccan Gold Mines Managing Director Dr Hanuma Prasad Modali said the successful production of the first gold doré marks a defining milestone in the company’s journey from explorer to producer.
He said validating the complete processing flowsheet—from gravity concentration and intensive leaching to gold recovery and doré production—under live operating conditions significantly de-risks the project and reinforces confidence in its commercial potential.
According to him, the achievement reflects years of technical planning, engineering and execution and supports the company’s strategy of building a globally diversified portfolio of producing gold and critical mineral assets.
Focus shifts to commercial production
Following the successful trial, Deccan Gold plans to accelerate preparations for full-scale commercial production at Altyn Tor.
The company will focus on plant optimisation, expanding mineral resources and refining mine planning. It also intends to update the project’s mineral resource estimate and prepare a revised Life-of-Mine plan to maximise long-term value from the asset.
Strategic overseas asset
Located in the Naryn region of central Kyrgyzstan, around six hours by road from Bishkek, the Altyn Tor deposit lies within the highly mineralised Soltan Sary belt, part of the 300-km-long Tien Shan Shear Zone that hosts several world-class gold deposits.
The project gives Deccan Gold exposure to an internationally recognised gold-bearing geological province while diversifying its asset base beyond India.
With the successful production of its first gold doré, the company has taken a decisive step towards establishing itself as an integrated gold producer, a transition that could significantly reshape its growth trajectory over the coming years.
