India’s automobile industry posted its strongest-ever July sales, with passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers registering robust double-digit growth, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The industry’s performance comes ahead of the festive season, with sustained sales momentum signalling improving consumer sentiment.
Passenger vehicle (PV) sales surged 34.3% year-on-year to 4,57,810 units in July 2026, compared with 3,40,772 units in the same month last year. The segment added 1.17 lakh vehicles in annual volume, making it the fastest-growing major category in percentage terms.
Two-wheelers cross 19 lakh
The two-wheeler market remained the biggest volume driver, with sales jumping 22.6% to 19,23,483 units, from 15,69,120 units in July 2025. This translates into an additional 3.54 lakh two-wheelers sold during the month.
Motorcycles accounted for 10,74,796 units, rising 20.7% year-on-year from 8,90,107 units. Scooter sales climbed 23.7% to 7,98,190 units, while mopeds recorded the sharpest growth within the segment, increasing 48.6% to 50,497 units.
Three-wheelers gain pace
Three-wheeler sales rose 33.4% to 92,560 units, against 69,403 units in July 2025.
Passenger carriers grew 32.9% to 77,994 units, while goods carriers recorded stronger growth of 40.3% to 12,896 units. E-rickshaw sales increased 7.5% to 1,132 units and e-cart sales rose 16.2% to 538 units.
Production crosses 33.7 lakh
Total production of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers and quadricycles stood at 33,70,958 units in July 2026.
Festive season outlook
SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said the industry’s strongest-ever July performance was supported by double-digit growth across the three major vehicle segments. He said the positive momentum sustained over several months has carried into the festive season, with expectations of strong consumer sentiment.
Overall, July’s numbers point to a broad-based recovery, with passenger vehicles adding pace while two-wheelers continue to provide the industry’s biggest volume engine. Three-wheelers, meanwhile, are also witnessing a strong rebound in demand.
