The Hinduja Group has announced plans to invest ₹2,500 crore in Tamil Nadu across renewable energy, electric mobility, automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions, reinforcing its commitment to the state’s clean energy and mobility transition.
The group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government for the proposed investment at the VETTRI Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026.
The investment commitment comes as Tamil Nadu seeks to deepen its position as a manufacturing, renewable energy and electric mobility hub, with the Hinduja Group looking to expand its presence across several emerging sectors.
200 MW-plus renewable energy push
A major component of the investment plan is the development of more than 200 MW of renewable energy projects by Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited.
The proposed projects will span solar, wind and battery technologies, with the company seeking land and connectivity support in identified catchment areas across the state.
The locations being considered include Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Coimbatore.
The planned renewable energy investments are expected to strengthen the group’s presence in clean energy while contributing to Tamil Nadu’s expanding renewable power ecosystem.
Electric buses to expand mobility footprint
In the electric mobility segment, OHM Global Mobility plans to operationalise electric buses for public transport in Tamil Nadu and expand its presence across the wider mobility solutions value chain.
The initiative is expected to complement the group’s existing capabilities in electric commercial vehicles, mobility services and associated infrastructure.
The Hinduja Group will also explore additional opportunities in automotive, financial services, energy, battery charging infrastructure and digital mobility solutions as part of its broader investment programme.
Hinduja Group sees Tamil Nadu as strategic growth market
Hinduja Group of Companies (India), Chairman, Ashok Hinduja, said the ₹2,500-crore commitment reflects the group’s confidence in Tamil Nadu and its growth prospects.
“Our ₹2,500 crore commitment is a statement of our confidence in Tamil Nadu and our desire to participate in its next phase of growth. With its strong industrial base, talent and renewable energy potential, Tamil Nadu is well positioned to lead India’s energy and mobility transition,” he said.
Hinduja said the group looks forward to building on its long-standing association with the state and working with the Tamil Nadu government to create lasting value through investments in clean energy, electric mobility and other emerging opportunities.
Builds on ₹7,500 crore EV commitment
The latest investment commitment builds on a ₹7,500-crore MoU signed by Hinduja Group UK with the Tamil Nadu government in September 2025.
That commitment was focused on strengthening the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem, including battery manufacturing, battery energy storage systems and charging infrastructure.
The group said Ashok Leyland also broke ground in March 2026 for a ₹500-crore greenfield battery pack manufacturing facility at Pillaipakkam near Chennai.
The facility is expected to strengthen the group’s capabilities in electric mobility and battery technology while supporting the localisation of EV components.
Broad Tamil Nadu presence
The Hinduja Group already has a significant business presence in Tamil Nadu through companies including Ashok Leyland, Gulf Oil India, Hinduja Leyland Finance, Hinduja Housing Finance, Switch Mobility, OHM Mobility, Gro Digital and Hinduja Tech.
The latest ₹2,500-crore commitment is expected to broaden this footprint beyond traditional automotive and financial services into renewable energy, electric mobility, charging infrastructure and digital mobility.
The investment plan also strengthens the group’s long-term strategy of leveraging Tamil Nadu’s manufacturing ecosystem, engineering talent and renewable energy potential to build capabilities around India’s transition towards cleaner energy and transportation.
