Yokohama Targets India’s SUV Boom With New GEOLANDAR X-CV Launch

CW Bureau ·

Yokohama India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan’s The Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd, has launched the GEOLANDAR X-CV tyre range for crossover and premium SUVs, expanding its availability to smaller wheel sizes from 16 inches onwards.

Originally developed for luxury SUVs with wheel sizes above 18 inches, the GEOLANDAR X-CV technology will now be offered in 32 sizes spanning 16 to 20-inch wheels. Yokohama India said this makes it the company’s most extensive dedicated tyre pattern for crossover and premium SUVs in India.

The new range is designed to deliver a balance of safety, comfort, durability and efficiency across varied weather and road conditions.

Latest compound and tread technologies
The GEOLANDAR X-CV incorporates Yokohama’s latest compound and tread technologies. Its Micro Silica technology is aimed at improving wet-road grip while reducing rolling resistance. An asymmetric tread design, with specially engineered inner and outer shoulder blocks, enhances wet traction, steering response and high-speed cornering stability.

Four wide circumferential grooves help evacuate water, improving wet braking performance and resistance to hydroplaning. Yokohama’s 2D–3D Combination Sipes are designed to further improve wet traction and promote even wear, while 5-Pitch Variation Technology reduces pattern noise for a quieter cabin experience.

Built for Indian roads and EVs
The tyre features reinforced two-ply sidewall construction and a Full Nylon Cover to enhance durability and high-speed stability under demanding road conditions.

The GEOLANDAR X-CV is also EV-compatible. Its construction is designed to handle the higher weight and instant torque characteristics of electric SUVs while maintaining durability, tyre life and driving comfort.

The launch reinforces Yokohama India’s focus on the premium mobility segment and its strategy of expanding its portfolio through manufacturing investments, localisation and technology development.

Yokohama Rubber Co Ltd Member of the Board and Senior Managing Officer & Co-COO and Chairman, Yokohama India Pvt Ltd,  Nitin Mantri said India remains one of Yokohama’s strategic markets globally. He said the launch reflects the company’s commitment to bringing globally proven technologies to Indian consumers.

Yokohama India Managing Director and CEO Harinder Singh said the rapidly growing crossover SUV segment is driving demand for tyres that offer safety, comfort, quietness and long-lasting performance.

The GEOLANDAR X-CV will be available from August 2026 through the Yokohama Club Network and select authorised dealers. Customers can also avail themselves of a no-cost EMI offer as part of the launch promotion.
