Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has unveiled its global pickup, which will be launched in India as the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler, marking a significant step in the automaker’s global growth strategy and its push into the lifestyle pickup segment.
First showcased as a concept in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2023, the pickup will be marketed as the Mahindra Lifestyler across international markets.
The Scorpio Lifestyler is scheduled to make its India debut by April 2027, with prices starting at below ₹19.79 lakh ex-showroom.
Designed and developed in India
The new pickup has been designed at Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and developed at Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai.
Built on Mahindra’s next-generation body-on-frame architecture, the Scorpio Lifestyler has been developed as a global product, incorporating customer insights from international markets.
Mahindra said the pickup combines capability, technology, durability and comfort, while targeting the global midsize pickup segment.
The vehicle is positioned as a lifestyle pickup that can combine everyday usability with adventure and utility. The company describes its approach as being designed for both “payload and playload”, bringing together load-carrying capability and recreational use.
Three editions showcased
Mahindra showcased three editions of the Scorpio Lifestyler — Valley, Reef and Trail — each representing a distinct interpretation of the lifestyle pickup concept.
The Valley edition focuses on purposeful refinement, while Reef emphasises freedom and exploration. Trail is positioned around adventure and off-road capability.
The variants combine a bold exterior design with SUV-inspired comfort and technology, while retaining the rugged characteristics associated with Mahindra’s pickup and SUV portfolio.
Global product with India at its core
Mahindra & Mahindra, President, Automotive Business, Velusamy R, said the company’s objective was to develop a world-class global pickup that raises the bar for the segment while retaining Mahindra’s strengths in capability and value.
He said the Scorpio Lifestyler demonstrated the product development capabilities of Mahindra Research Valley and had been engineered on the company’s next-generation body-on-frame architecture to deliver capability, durability, safety and refinement for customers across markets.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Chief Design and Creative Officer, Pratap Bose, said the Scorpio Lifestyler was inspired by the way customers work, play and explore.
He said the pickup combines bold exterior styling, premium interiors and SUV-like comfort with Mahindra’s rugged character, with the three editions expressing different interpretations of refinement, exploration and adventure.
Targeting India’s lifestyle pickup market
Mahindra & Mahindra, CEO, Automotive Division, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, said the Scorpio Lifestyler represented the convergence of global engineering and changing customer aspirations.
He said Mahindra was seeing growing demand for vehicles that offer authentic capability without compromising on technology, safety, comfort and everyday usability.
The company is preparing for the India launch by building awareness, strengthening its network and developing the ownership experience around the lifestyle pickup category.
Mahindra’s global growth play
The Mahindra Lifestyler has been conceived from the outset as a global product, with the company targeting customers across international markets.
Its development in India and planned international rollout underline Mahindra’s strategy of leveraging its domestic engineering and design capabilities to create products for global markets.
With the Scorpio Lifestyler, Mahindra is seeking to bridge the gap between traditional workhorse pickups and lifestyle-oriented vehicles, bringing together utility, adventure, comfort and technology in a single package.
The India launch by April 2027 will mark the next major step in Mahindra’s effort to establish a stronger presence in the country’s emerging lifestyle pickup market.
