Cognizant’s New AI Talent Strategy: 489 B-School Graduates Join Pipeline

CW Bureau ·

Cognizant has launched a new talent accelerator programme for 489 newly hired graduates from 58 business schools across 37 cities in India, strengthening its focus on building interdisciplinary talent for an increasingly AI-driven business environment.

The cohort includes graduates from leading institutions such as IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, ISB Hyderabad, SPJIMR Mumbai, FMS University of Delhi and XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, among others.

The two-week immersive programme is being conducted simultaneously at Cognizant facilities in Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. It is designed to familiarise new associates with Cognizant’s business, values and operating environment, while providing functional, sales and marketing training.

The programme also gives participants direct interaction with Cognizant’s business and leadership teams.

Building talent for the AI era
Cognizant Global Operations President and Cognizant India Chairman & Managing Director, Rajesh Varrier said cognitive diversity is essential to creating value for clients and associates as Cognizant builds AI capabilities.

“By bringing together interdisciplinary talent from across the country from day one, the Talent Accelerator program fosters a culture of collaboration and aims to equip new associates to bridge the gap between AI capabilities and real-world business outcomes,” Varrier said.

The composition of the latest cohort reflects Cognizant’s strategy of expanding hiring beyond traditional STEM disciplines.

More than 37% of the graduates come from non-STEM backgrounds, including liberal arts disciplines such as sociology and psychology, vocational fields including office management and secretarial practice, and design-oriented areas such as industrial design.

Women account for more than 42% of the cohort, highlighting the company’s focus on inclusion while expanding its talent pool.

Scaling AI-ready workforce
The talent accelerator programme comes alongside Cognizant’s broader effort to develop the human capabilities required to translate AI investments into business outcomes.

The company has recently committed to scaling its Frontier-certified workforce to 5,000 Frontier Certified Engineers and 10,000 Frontier Business Operators.

Cognizant said this workforce is intended to provide the human and operational infrastructure enterprises need to convert AI capabilities into measurable business results.

The hiring of B-school graduates from diverse academic backgrounds, coupled with structured onboarding and exposure to business and technology leadership, signals a broader shift in how technology companies are building talent for the AI economy.

For Cognizant, the emphasis is increasingly not just on technical skills but also on business understanding, functional expertise and cognitive diversity — capabilities needed to bridge the growing gap between AI technology and its practical enterprise applications.
