India’s semiconductor ambitions will take centre stage at SEMICON India 2026, with the fifth edition of the country’s biggest semiconductor event scheduled to be held from September 17-19, 2026 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre), Dwarka, New Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the three-day event on September 17.
Themed “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, SEMICON India 2026 is being jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association.
The event will bring together global semiconductor companies, government and industry leaders, investors, policymakers, researchers, academia, startups and students as India seeks to build a robust and resilient semiconductor ecosystem.
India steps up semiconductor push
India’s semiconductor programme has gained momentum under the India Semiconductor Mission and the Semicon India Programme, with 12 projects approved under Semicon 1.0 to establish semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in the country.
The Union Cabinet has also approved Semicon 2.0, aimed at accelerating the development of a resilient semiconductor ecosystem.
Alongside manufacturing, the government is supporting semiconductor research, innovation and chip design. State-of-the-art design tools have been made available to more than 332 academic institutions and 105 startups.
As many as 24 startups have also been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, supporting Indian innovators working on critical semiconductor applications.
These initiatives are aimed at developing an end-to-end semiconductor and electronics ecosystem aligned with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Focus on the complete semiconductor value chain
SEMICON India 2026 will feature keynotes, panel discussions, fireside chats and international country roundtables, providing a platform for industry and policymakers to discuss investment, technology, innovation and supply-chain opportunities.
The conference will cover manufacturing and technology, AI and digital transformation, supply chains, chemicals, gases and materials, policy and government programmes, sustainability and ESG, product creation and design, startups and innovation, talent and skilling, and India brands and market development.
The event will also feature leadership and strategic forums, six international country roundtables, a dedicated session on women empowerment and leadership, and a workforce development session.
A special session titled “Stronger Together: Industry Associations Collaborating for India’s ESDM Growth” will focus on greater industry collaboration.
500 exhibitors expected
The exhibition is expected to feature more than 500 exhibitors representing the global semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
The event will also introduce a ‘Sand to Silicon to Systems’ Value Chain Experience, showcasing India’s capabilities and ambitions across the semiconductor value chain.
Global industry leaders to participate
SEMICON India 2026 will feature senior representatives from leading global and Indian companies, including ASML, Applied Materials, Teradyne, Infineon, Ebara, Jabil, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Merck KGaA, Rapidus, Lam Research, CG Power, Uno Minda, Advantest, Inox Air Products, HORIBA STEC, SCREEN, Everspin Technologies, Brewer Science, Polar Semiconductor, Tokyo Electron and Emergence AI, among others.
SEMI, President and CEO, Ajit Manocha, said India is well positioned to emerge as a major semiconductor hub, combining speed, ambition, talent and a long-term vision.
“India’s opportunity is not simply to join the global supply chain, but to become integral to it. That is the ambition SEMICON India 2026 exists to accelerate,” he said.
SEMI India and IESA, President, Ashok Chandak, said the theme reflects India’s evolution towards building a comprehensive and globally competitive semiconductor value chain.
He said the growing participation of global and Indian companies demonstrates industry confidence in India’s semiconductor journey, with SEMICON India emerging as a convergence point for industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, startups and investors.
The event, he added, will showcase India’s progress from building credibility to demonstrating capability across the semiconductor ecosystem.
