DePuy Synthes, a global provider of orthopaedic technologies and solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with the Department of Orthopedics at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, to establish a specialised Orthopaedic Skill Lab at the institution.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening hands-on surgical education by providing orthopaedic residents, fellows and faculty with structured training in procedural simulation, instrumentation and technology-assisted surgery.
The planned skill lab will offer trainees practical exposure to modern orthopaedic tools, implant management and surgical workflows. Training will include saw-bone practice, faculty-led case discussions and a gradual introduction to technology-assisted techniques.
The programme is designed to help trainees develop essential procedural skills before, or alongside, their participation in live surgeries.
Focus on technology-enabled surgical training
The partnership comes as orthopaedic care increasingly moves towards greater specialisation and the adoption of advanced technologies. The skill lab is intended to provide a practice-focused training environment that bridges the gap between theoretical learning and clinical application.
Tamil Nadu, which has 78 medical colleges, is among India’s major centres for medical education. The concentration of medical institutions across the state and South India provides an opportunity to expand practical and technology-enabled surgical training.
The CMC Vellore facility is expected to create a long-term training infrastructure that supports the development of orthopaedic surgical skills in the region.
