EPFO Advises Employers To Enrol Workers Left Out Of EPF Coverage

CW Bureau ·

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has urged establishments to make use of the Employees’ Enrolment Campaign 2026 (EEC 2026) to bring eligible workers who remained outside Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) coverage under the statutory social security framework.

The one-time campaign, notified with effect from June 29, 2026, provides employers an opportunity to enrol eligible employees who were left out of EPF coverage between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2026.

The campaign will remain open until October 31, 2026, and is aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance while extending provident fund, pension and insurance benefits to eligible employees.

One-time regularisation opportunity
Under EEC 2026, eligible employers can declare and enrol employees who were not covered by EPF during the specified period, provided the employees are alive and continuing in employment with the establishment on the date of declaration.

The campaign offers specified relaxations to facilitate regularisation of past compliance. These include waiver of the employee’s share of contribution where it was not deducted earlier, subject to the conditions prescribed under the campaign.

Employers are required to complete the enrolment and contribution remittance process through the prescribed online mechanism.

For each declared employee, a Face Authentication-based Universal Account Number (UAN) is to be generated through the UMANG App, following which contributions are required to be remitted through the Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR).

EPFO steps up awareness drive
EPFO said the campaign is intended to provide establishments and workers with a structured mechanism to bring eligible employees within the statutory social security system.

Employers have been advised to review their employment and wage records and identify employees who may have remained outside EPF coverage during the prescribed period.

The organisation is also conducting awareness and outreach programmes to highlight the key provisions of EEC 2026 among employers, employees, establishments, contractors and other stakeholders.

Ministries and departments of the Government of India, State Governments and Union Territories, public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies and other organisations are being encouraged to facilitate wider dissemination of the campaign among establishments and service providers under their administrative control.

EPFO has urged eligible employers to take advantage of the one-time opportunity and complete the enrolment of eligible employees before the campaign closes on October 31, 2026.
