Flender, a global provider of drivetrain solutions for the wind industry, has inaugurated a new generator production facility in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, strengthening its manufacturing footprint and positioning itself to meet the growing demand for wind energy solutions in India.

The new facility, operating under Flender’s Winergy brand, expands the company’s capabilities across the wind drivetrain value chain. Winergy offers expertise spanning gearboxes, generators, direct-drive segments, couplings and multibrand drivetrain services, enabling Flender to provide integrated solutions for wind turbine manufacturers and operators.

The inauguration was attended by customers, suppliers and key stakeholders from across the wind energy value chain.

Expanding wind manufacturing in India
The Chennai facility is part of Flender’s strategy to expand its wind business in India while increasing the localisation of manufacturing and supply chain operations.

The company is also strengthening its local manufacturing capabilities through integrated winding operations, which are expected to enhance production capacity and bring manufacturing closer to customers.

By expanding its presence in India, Flender aims to improve responsiveness, reduce lead times and strengthen its position as a partner for the country’s growing wind energy industry.

The investment is also expected to contribute to local industrial development and create opportunities for skilled employment.

“The inauguration of our new generator site is an important milestone in the growth journey of our Winergy business in India. It reinforces our long-term commitment to our customers and to the whole wind industry,” said Flender, VP Wind Generators, Joerg Sieber.

“The new facility will support the increasing demand for wind power solutions while also contributing to local industrial development and skilled employment. This investment builds on the successful localization efforts at our Indian locations and underscores Flender’s broader commitment under the Winergy brand to accelerating the deployment of renewable energy,” said Flender India, Country CEO, Vinod Shetty.

Strengthening renewable energy ecosystem
The new production site adds to Flender’s manufacturing capabilities in India and strengthens its role in the country’s renewable energy ecosystem.

The investment underlines the company’s focus on localisation, customer proximity and supply chain resilience as India scales up its wind power capacity.

Flender said the expanded manufacturing capabilities will support the long-term growth of the wind energy sector while helping build a stronger local industrial ecosystem for drivetrain and generator solutions.
