CW Bureau ·

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL) has inaugurated its fourth manufacturing unit at Malanpur in Madhya Pradesh, marking a further expansion of its manufacturing footprint in the state.

The facility was inaugurated on August 26 in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson, GCPL.

₹850-crore investment
Located in the Industrial Area, Malanpur, in Bhind district, the 65-acre site has received cumulative investment of ₹850 crore. GCPL has been operating at Malanpur since 1991.

The newly inaugurated fourth manufacturing unit represents an investment of more than ₹480 crore. The expansion strengthens Malanpur’s role in GCPL’s manufacturing ecosystem, which produces soaps, hair colours, household insecticides and other consumer products.

Asia’s largest integrated soap facility
The expansion makes Malanpur home to what GCPL describes as Asia’s largest integrated soap manufacturing facility, with production lines capable of manufacturing up to 4,000 soap bars a minute.

The company expects the expanded facility to generate a turnover of ₹3,800 crore once it becomes fully operational.

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd Executive Chairperson Nisaba Godrej said, “This expansion makes Malanpur home to Asia’s largest integrated soap manufacturing facility, with our lines here capable of producing up to 4,000 soap bars every minute. It is a state-of-the-art facility that reflects 35 years of partnership between Godrej and Madhya Pradesh, dating back to when we first began manufacturing in Malanpur in 1991.”

She added that the expansion is expected to generate a turnover of ₹3,800 crore once fully operational and highlighted the facility’s role in creating opportunities for women in manufacturing.

Automation boosts capacity
The new unit incorporates automation and digitisation, with high-speed production lines operating at almost three times the speed of GCPL’s existing lines, according to the company.

Godrej Consumer Products Ltd MD and CEO Aasif Malbari said, “Designed with cutting edge automation and digitisation, this plant features high speed production lines that operate almost three times faster than our current lines, significantly upgrading production efficiency.”

With the expansion, GCPL’s total soap manufacturing capacity at Malanpur has increased to more than 2 lakh tonnes per annum.

The facility will manufacture a range of products, including soaps and brands such as Cinthol, Godrej No.1, GoodKnight, Godrej Aer and Godrej Expert Hair Colour.

Manufacturing and women workforce
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said, “Godrej’s journey in Madhya Pradesh is a testament to the state’s strong and enduring partnership with industry. From establishing its Malanpur facility in 1991 to inaugurating this expanded manufacturing hub today, the company has consistently contributed to employment generation, industrial development and economic growth in the state.”

He said the Malanpur facility’s scale and focus on inclusive growth reflect Madhya Pradesh’s emergence as a preferred destination for investment and manufacturing.

Focus on sustainability
The facility has also been designed with a focus on environmental responsibility as part of GCPL’s broader sustainability goals.

The plant adheres to guidelines of the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), aligning the expansion with the company’s emphasis on scale, sustainability and Aatmanirbharta.

The Malanpur expansion further deepens GCPL’s 35-year manufacturing presence in Madhya Pradesh while adding capacity and technology to support its growing FMCG operations.
