Nissan India Clocks 147% Growth In August Sales, Begins Tekton Exports

CW Bureau ·

Nissan Motor India Pvt Ltd (NMIPL) reported a 147% year-on-year increase in domestic wholesale sales in August 2026, driven by sustained demand for the Magnite and Gravite and a strong market response to the new Tekton SUV.

The company recorded total wholesale sales of 9,350 units during the month, comprising 3,426 units in the domestic market and 5,924 units exported to international markets.

The month also marked the beginning of the international journey of the new Tekton, with Nissan commencing exports to South Africa, Bhutan and Nepal under its “One Car. One World.” strategy.

Nissan has dispatched the first batch of more than 1,300 Tekton units to these three markets. The company plans to progressively introduce the SUV across additional international markets from India.

Tekton takes India’s export story global

The start of Tekton exports marks the first phase of Nissan’s international rollout for the SUV and highlights the growing role of its Indian operations in the company’s global manufacturing and export network.

Under the “One Car. One World.” strategy, Nissan aims to manufacture globally competitive products in India to consistent Nissan standards and offer them to customers across domestic and international markets.

The launch of Tekton in Nepal and Bhutan further expands Nissan’s presence in neighbouring markets, while the South African export programme provides a wider international platform for the SUV.

Nissan Motor India Managing Director Saurabh Vatsa said, “The response to the all-new Nissan Tekton has been encouraging and has contributed to a strong domestic wholesale performance in August. At the same time, our export business continues to demonstrate the global competitiveness of vehicles manufactured in India and underlines the strategic importance of our Indian operations within Nissan’s global network.”

“As we expand TEKTON’s presence across domestic and international markets, we remain focused on delivering innovative products, a differentiated customer experience and sustainable growth for the business,” he added.

SUV strengthens Nissan’s portfolio

Designed around Nissan’s SUV DNA, the Tekton combines Japanese craftsmanship, intelligent technology, performance and everyday practicality.

The company sees the SUV as a key product in its growth strategy in India and expects it to strengthen its position across both domestic and export markets.

Nissan Motor India said it remains focused on building sustainable scale through a wider product portfolio, enhanced customer experiences and expansion of its international footprint.

The company is also looking to leverage India’s growing importance as a manufacturing and export hub within Nissan’s global operations.

With domestic wholesale growth accelerating and Tekton exports now underway, Nissan is seeking to build a stronger dual-engine growth model from India, serving rising demand in the domestic market while expanding its reach across international markets.
