CW Bureau ·

Maruti Suzuki India has crossed the 15 lakh cumulative sales milestone for its Eeco van, reinforcing its leadership in India’s van segment and underscoring the model’s growing appeal among families, entrepreneurs, businesses and institutions.

Launched in January 2010 and developed specifically for the Indian market, the Eeco has evolved into a versatile mobility platform, combining space, practicality, flexibility and dependability.

The pace of Eeco sales has accelerated significantly over the years. The first 5 lakh units took eight years, while the next 5 lakh were sold in less than five years. The latest 5 lakh units were achieved in just three-and-a-half years, marking the fastest 5 lakh sales milestone in the model’s journey.

Rural India drives Eeco demand
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Partho Banerjee said the 15 lakh milestone reflects the trust customers have placed in the Eeco.

“The 15 lakh sales milestone is a celebration of the progress of our customers and the enduring trust they have placed in Eeco. From families experiencing the joy of mobility, to entrepreneurs building their businesses and institutions delivering essential services, Eeco has played many roles in the lives of its customers,” he said.

The model’s strong connection with rural India is reflected in its sales mix. Rural markets accounted for 65% of Eeco sales in FY2025-26, while 55% of customers were first-time buyers and more than 51% were business owners.

Banerjee said that for many customers, the Eeco is more than a mode of transport, serving as an enabler of aspiration and livelihood.

One van, multiple applications
The Eeco’s customer profile is also evolving, with buyers becoming younger and moving up the income ladder. The model has continued to bring more customers into four-wheeler mobility while catering to a wide range of transportation needs.

The Eeco portfolio comprises 13 variants spanning 5-seater and 6-seater passenger versions, Tour V, Ambulance and Cargo models. It is available with petrol and S-CNG powertrain options.

The platform serves multiple applications, including family transportation, tourism, cargo movement, entrepreneurial activities and essential services.

S-CNG adoption rises sharply
Maruti Suzuki has continued to upgrade the Eeco while retaining its focus on practicality and value.

The latest Eeco is powered by a 1.2-litre Advanced K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine, delivering claimed fuel efficiency of 19.71 km/l in petrol and 26.78 km/kg in S-CNG.

The shift towards CNG has been particularly significant. The share of S-CNG models in Eeco sales has increased four-fold, from 12% in FY2019-20 to 48% in FY2025-26, highlighting growing demand for alternative fuel options among its customers.

Safety gets a major upgrade
Safety and comfort have also become key elements of the Eeco’s evolution.

The 2026 Eeco comes with six airbags as standard, along with Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), reverse parking sensors and three-point ELR seatbelts for all seats.

Other safety features include seatbelt reminders, a speed alert system and side-impact beams.

The van also offers practical comfort features such as a digital instrument cluster, air conditioning, HVAC controls, a dome lamp with battery-saver function and reclining front seats.

Eeco Star Edition marks 15 lakh milestone
To commemorate the 15 lakh sales milestone, Maruti Suzuki has introduced the Eeco Star Edition, aimed at giving the van a more stylish and premium appearance.

The special edition comes with 18 exclusive exterior and interior accessories, designed to enhance its aesthetics and cabin experience. Body-coloured bumpers further add to its contemporary appearance.

With its expanding customer base, strong rural-market traction, rising S-CNG adoption and diverse range of applications, the Eeco continues to occupy a distinctive position in India’s van market.
