The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ), in collaboration with the IIT Madras India Centre for Lab-Grown Diamond (InCent LGD), has launched a global programme, Certificate in Lab-Grown Diamond Technology.
The 90-hour hybrid programme will cover the technical, commercial and regulatory aspects of the lab-grown diamond (LGD) industry. It has been structured around evening and weekend sessions.
Programme covers industry and business aspects
IIGJ will deliver 30 hours of live online instruction covering the global diamond industry, emergence of LGDs and the industry ecosystem.
The curriculum will also cover market and consumer fundamentals, technology and commerce, entrepreneurship, trade and exports, regulatory frameworks, future technologies and the strategic outlook for the sector.
IIT Madras focuses on technology
The IIT Madras component comprises 48 hours of live online learning and 12 hours of campus immersion.
The technical curriculum includes graphite and diamond structures, High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) technology and Microwave Plasma Chemical Vapour Deposition (MPCVD).
Focus on diamond growth and characterisation
Participants will learn about diamond growth through MPCVD, post-processing of LGDs and advanced characterisation.
The programme is intended to provide exposure to the scientific and technological foundations of LGD production, along with the wider business ecosystem surrounding the sector.
