Tata Power Company Ltd, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, has successfully commissioned the second element of its Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Project in Uttar Pradesh, strengthening the state’s power transmission infrastructure and improving connectivity to growing electricity demand centres across the National Capital Region (NCR) and Western Uttar Pradesh.
The project has been executed through TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power.
The second element of the project comprises a 400 kV double-circuit transmission line from Khurja to Jalpura spanning 162 circuit kilometres (CKM), along with a 400/220 kV GIS substation at Jalpura with 1,000 MVA transformation capacity.
The 162 CKM transmission corridor consists of two circuits of approximately 81 km each, establishing a critical high-voltage link between Khurja and Jalpura.
Khurja is an important power node in Western Uttar Pradesh and plays a strategic role in facilitating efficient transmission of electricity towards NCR and Noida. The new transmission corridor is expected to strengthen the flow of power to key demand centres in the region.
Major power gateway
The newly commissioned 400/220 kV GIS substation at Jalpura, with a transformation capacity of 1,000 MVA, will serve as a major power gateway by enabling the transfer of electricity from the 400 kV high-voltage grid to the 220 kV network.
The substation will support the region’s increasing electricity requirements while enhancing the reliability, resilience and efficiency of the transmission network.
With the commissioning of the transmission corridor and substation, Tata Power is further strengthening the infrastructure required to support the next phase of growth in NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh. The project also contributes to the broader objective of developing a robust and future-ready electricity grid for India.
The commissioning reinforces Tata Power’s capabilities in developing large-scale and critical power infrastructure and underlines its commitment to supporting India’s transition towards a reliable, resilient and future-ready power transmission network.
Transmission portfolio expands
Following the commissioning, Tata Power’s transmission portfolio now stands at 7,900 circuit kilometres of lines operational and under execution across India, reinforcing the company’s role in strengthening the country’s electricity transmission network.
The Jalpura-Khurja project is expected to play an important role in meeting the evolving power requirements of one of India’s key consumption regions while supporting the expansion and reliability of the wider transmission grid.
