Murugappa Group’s CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. has rolled out the first power transformer from its new greenfield manufacturing facility at Sehore in Madhya Pradesh.
Spread across 50 acres, the facility is India’s largest single-location power transformer manufacturing plant, designed to produce 220 kV to 1,200 kV class power transformers.
Facility targets global power infrastructure demand
The plant has the capacity to roll out 35 power transformers every month and is expected to strengthen CG Power’s ability to cater to growing demand for power infrastructure equipment.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who attended the rollout, said the facility would create more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs in Sehore.
Legacy showcased
“CG has been among the pioneers of electrical infrastructure equipment, including transformers and switchgears, for close to nine decades. This legacy is showcased at our new Sehore facility,” CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Chairman, Vellayan Subbiah, said.
“Built at scale to manufacture the world’s largest power transformers, this facility will supplement the demand for power infrastructure equipment and also contribute to exports,” Subbiah said.
Facility completed in 13–14 months
CG Power and Industrial Solutions, Group CEO and Managing Director, Amar Kaul, said the first transformer rollout was the result of collaboration and an ownership-driven approach during the project’s execution.
“Bringing this facility to life within 13–14 months was made possible through the immense support of the Madhya Pradesh Government, and our execution excellence engine — CG EDGE,” Kaul said.
Sehore plant to serve multiple sectors
The facility will strengthen CG Power’s ability to serve utilities, data centres, railways, renewable energy, oil and gas, and transmission infrastructure projects in India and global markets.
The plant will also support the company’s growing export business, expanding its manufacturing capabilities for high-voltage power infrastructure equipment.
