HCLTech Unveils Advanced Chip Lab In Bengaluru, Invests ₹185 Cr For R&D

CW Bureau ·

HCLTech has launched an Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru with an investment of ₹185 crore, strengthening its semiconductor engineering capabilities and positioning the technology services company among the service providers offering integrated semiconductor testing capabilities.

The state-of-the-art facility is aimed at accelerating semiconductor innovation and reducing time-to-market for global customers by bringing post-silicon engineering, advanced testing and failure analysis capabilities under one roof.

40,000 sq ft semiconductor facility
The new facility spans 40,000 sq ft, including 25,000 sq ft of Class 10K and Class 1K cleanrooms. It is designed to support research and development, pre-production and production qualification for semiconductor products.

HCLTech said the facility builds on its two decades of semiconductor expertise and will provide customers with access to advanced testing infrastructure and specialised engineering teams.

The lab is equipped with tools from Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight, Tektronix and Thermo Fisher Scientific, covering a range of semiconductor testing, validation and failure-analysis requirements.

From specifications to finished parts
Aligned with HCLTech’s Spec2Parts business model, the lab provides an integrated platform covering electrical validation, automated testing, qualification and failure analysis.

The unified approach is intended to streamline the semiconductor development journey from design specifications to finished parts, helping customers reduce complexity, improve quality and accelerate turnaround times.

HCLTech said the facility is designed to address critical gaps in India’s semiconductor ecosystem while providing domestic and international customers with access to advanced infrastructure and skilled engineering talent.

Strengthening India’s semiconductor capabilities
HCLTech, Corporate Vice President and Global Head, Engineering and R&D Services, Hari Sadarahalli said: “The inauguration of our Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru is a proud milestone for HCLTech and reinforces India’s growing leadership in semiconductor innovation. This facility reflects our deep commitment to investing in high-end engineering capabilities. We are excited to contribute to the country’s vision of becoming a global hub for advanced technology.”

Global certification roadmap
The facility is set to pursue global certifications, including ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AS 9100 (Mil-Aero) and ISO 13485 (Medical).

Its cleanroom infrastructure includes advanced automated test equipment (ATE) testers, probes and qualification chambers. The failure analysis capabilities include optical and electron microscopy as well as focused ion beam (FIB) systems.

With the facility serving both domestic and international markets, HCLTech expects the Bengaluru lab to play a key role in its global semiconductor strategy and contribute to the development of high-quality semiconductor solutions from India.
