Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd, along with its European and UK-based joint venture companies, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Guidance, the investment promotion agency of the Tamil Nadu government, to invest approximately ₹11,000 crore in Tamil Nadu.
The MoU was signed in London on Monday in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, marking a significant proposed expansion by the global automotive components and technology group in the State.
Investment to span multiple sectors
The proposed investment is expected to create employment opportunities for around 7,000 people across a range of activities, including design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics.
The planned investments are expected to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a major manufacturing and engineering hub, while expanding the State’s role in global supply chains.
MoU signed in London
Samvardhana Motherson International Group Global Head of Marketing and Communications Barry Painter and Deepak Jacob, IAS, Managing Director, Guidance, signed and exchanged the MoU at the event.
The agreement brings together Motherson’s global capabilities and Tamil Nadu’s investment facilitation framework, with the proposed projects covering multiple stages of the manufacturing and engineering value chain.
Senior officials attend
Kumaran Periyasamy, IFS, High Commissioner of India to the United Kingdom, along with representatives of Samvardhana Motherson International and senior government officials, participated in the event.
The proposed ₹11,000-crore investment adds to Tamil Nadu’s efforts to attract large-scale industrial investments and create skilled employment across manufacturing and technology-intensive sectors.
