DICV Positions India At Centre Of Daimler Truck’s New ISEAA Region

CW Bureau ·

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the maker of BharatBenz trucks and buses, has highlighted India’s growing strategic importance within Daimler Truck following the creation of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment’s new ISEAA customer region covering India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific.

The new regional structure brings together markets that were previously managed separately, with India serving as the anchor for a customer region spanning 42 countries and nearly 2.8 billion people.

The move comes alongside DICV’s plans to accelerate BharatBenz’s next phase of growth through product innovation, expansion of its customer ecosystem and continued investment in manufacturing and engineering capabilities in India.

India becomes anchor for ISEAA
Mercedes-Benz Trucks, one of Daimler Truck’s global key segments, comprises the Mercedes-Benz Trucks and BharatBenz brands.

While BharatBenz serves the Indian market through DICV, Mercedes-Benz Trucks caters to customers across South-East Asia, Australia-Pacific and other global markets.

Under Daimler Truck’s new global operating model, the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment is organised into four customer regions,  Europe, LAMEA (Latin America, Middle East and Africa), China, and ISEAA.

The ISEAA structure brings India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific under a single customer-focused organisation.

DICV will serve as the anchor entity for ISEAA, building on its manufacturing, engineering and export capabilities.

Since starting operations, DICV has exported more than 75,000 trucks and buses and over 330 million parts to more than 70 markets worldwide. Its Chennai facility also supplies medium-duty transmissions to Daimler Truck plants in Germany.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles CEO & Managing Director and President Mercedes-Benz Trucks Customer Region ISEAA, Torsten Schmidt, said, “India has long been an important market for Daimler Truck and the home of BharatBenz. Through the new ISEAA customer region, we are bringing India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific closer together to strengthen collaboration, share capabilities and respond faster to customer needs across these markets.”

“DICV serves as the anchor entity for the region, building on its established strengths in manufacturing, engineering and exports. For our customers in India, BharatBenz remains focused on delivering products and services designed specifically for local operating conditions, while benefiting from the scale, expertise and collaboration of the broader Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment,” he added.

Regional market offers growth opportunity
The ISEAA customer region brings together some of the world’s fastest-growing transportation and infrastructure markets.

Commercial vehicle demand across the region is expected to grow by more than 5% annually, making the region a significant long-term opportunity for Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

The new structure is aimed at enabling closer engagement with customers, faster decision-making and greater collaboration across markets.

BharatBenz steps up product innovation
Alongside its expanded regional role, DICV is preparing the BharatBenz portfolio for the next phase of growth, with a focus on safety, productivity and operating efficiency.

As India’s commercial vehicle safety regulations evolve, BharatBenz is preparing its trucks and buses with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) calibrated for Indian operating conditions.

The company is also expanding the use of Daimler Truck technologies across its Indian portfolio.

Following the introduction of HX and Torqshift in the construction and mining segment, BharatBenz is looking to increase adoption of automated transmission technology in India.

Torqshift Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), which has been deployed across hundreds of thousands of Daimler Truck heavy-duty vehicles globally, has been adapted for Indian duty cycles.

The technology is designed to improve driver comfort, reduce fatigue and support safer and more efficient fleet operations while contributing to lower total cost of ownership.

Service network to reach 600 touchpoints
DICV is also strengthening BharatBenz’s customer ecosystem with a focus on vehicle uptime and lifecycle value.

Its TruckConnect digital fleet management platform enables customers to monitor vehicle performance and improve fleet operations using connected technologies and data-driven insights.

The BharatBenz Rakshana service assurance programme currently services and delivers more than 98% of vehicles within 48 hours.

DICV plans to expand its nationwide service network from 430 touchpoints currently to 600 by 2030. The expansion will particularly target northern, eastern and north-eastern India.

The company expects the wider network, combined with digital solutions, improved parts availability and uptime-focused services, to reduce response times and strengthen customer support.

₹14,500 crore cumulative investment
DICV’s expanded regional role is being backed by continued investment in manufacturing, engineering and technology capabilities in India.

The company recently announced an additional investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu under a non-binding facilitation MoU with the state government.

The investment will take DICV’s cumulative investment in India to more than ₹14,500 crore and is aimed at strengthening manufacturing capacity, R&D infrastructure, future technologies and long-term competitiveness for BharatBenz.

DICV currently has a localisation level of 92% and works with more than 400 local suppliers.

The company said these capabilities strengthen its ability to develop products and technologies tailored to both Indian and global markets, while reinforcing India’s role within Daimler Truck’s global manufacturing and engineering network.
