Renault India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Renault Group, has resumed vehicle exports to Sri Lanka, taking its international export footprint to 16 countries.

The company has shipped the first consignment of 100 vehicles comprising the all-new Triber, Kwid and Kiger from its manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai, marking Renault’s return to the Sri Lankan market.

AMW Motors to support Sri Lanka re-entry
Renault India will re-enter Sri Lanka in partnership with AMW Motors, one of the country’s leading automotive distributors.

The partnership is expected to support Renault’s renewed commercial presence in Sri Lanka and provide a base for the company to expand its business in the market.

Renault India, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Francisco Hidalgo, said, “The resumption of exports to Sri Lanka is an important step in our international growth journey. We see significant potential to expand the reach of vehicles engineered and manufactured in India, while strengthening India’s role as an export base for Renault.”

He said Renault’s focus would be on building sustainable markets over the long term, supported by local partnerships and a product portfolio aligned with customer requirements.

Vehicles made in Chennai
The vehicles being exported to Sri Lanka are manufactured at Renault India’s facility in Oragadam, Chennai.

The plant caters to both the domestic market and international markets, underlining the increasing role of Renault’s Indian manufacturing operations in the Renault Group’s global business.

The company plans to expand its product portfolio in Sri Lanka over time, with the New Duster among the models slated for introduction.

The broader portfolio is expected to allow Renault to participate in a wider range of vehicle segments as it rebuilds its presence in the Sri Lankan market.

India emerges as export base
India has become an important sourcing base for Renault’s overseas markets. The company has exported nearly 200,000 vehicles from India so far, with South Africa and Saudi Arabia among the destinations, besides several other international markets.

The resumption of exports to Sri Lanka further expands the international reach of vehicles manufactured at Renault India’s Chennai facility and takes the company’s export presence from India to 16 countries.
