Pine Labs, a digital payments and commerce platform, plans to deploy 10 lakh soundboxes across India as part of a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the country’s digital payments infrastructure.
The planned deployment comes as digital payments, including UPI, expand beyond small-ticket transactions and gain wider adoption across businesses and new segments. Pine Labs said the initiative is intended to deepen UPI penetration and support the next phase of digital commerce growth.
Investment to expand digital payments
The deployment is also aimed at creating new opportunities for merchants as digital payment volumes and use cases increase.
Pine Labs CEO B Amrish Rau said, “With new monetization levers emerging, we want to walk the talk by investing back into the ecosystem and deepen digital payments adoption. Cloud-based payment infrastructure
Built on a cloud-first architecture, Pine Labs’ soundboxes provide merchants with real-time audio confirmation of payment transactions.
The devices also support remote management, over-the-air software updates and centralised monitoring. These capabilities are designed to help merchants manage and scale their payment infrastructure as transaction volumes increase.
The planned rollout is expected to strengthen payment infrastructure across markets and business segments while supporting merchants participating in India’s expanding digital commerce ecosystem.
Pine Labs said the investment reflects the broader evolution of India’s digital payments landscape, with UPI and other digital payment modes increasingly becoming part of everyday commerce beyond traditional low-value transactions.
