Switch Mobility Ltd has secured an order for 840 electric buses from Antony Road Transport Solutions under Phase I of the Government of India’s PM E-Drive scheme, strengthening the company’s presence in Delhi’s public transport electrification programme.
The order comprises 420 9-metre and 420 12-metre air-conditioned electric buses, which will be deployed with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Transport Department, Delhi. The agreement has been signed between Switch Mobility and Antony Road Transport Solutions.
Large-scale electric bus deployment
The buses will support passenger transportation across Delhi while contributing to the city’s efforts to transition towards cleaner and more sustainable urban mobility.
Switch Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said the order demonstrates growing confidence in electric mobility solutions for large-scale public transportation. He said the mix of 9-metre and 12-metre buses will allow operators to address different passenger mobility requirements while improving the efficiency of urban transport.
Antony Road Transport Solutions Director Jimmy John said the company’s long-standing relationship with Ashok Leyland and its trust in the Hinduja Group had led to the order, adding that the partnership would support sustainable mobility in the National Capital Region.
Technology for fleet efficiency
The electric buses are based on Switch’s EiV platform, featuring modular battery configurations, electric powertrains and regenerative braking. Dual-gun fast charging is designed to reduce charging turnaround time and improve fleet utilisation.
Passenger-focused features include spacious interiors, comfortable seating, USB charging and low-floor access. Safety systems include fire detection and suppression systems and multi-level battery protection.
The buses will also be supported by Switch iON, the company’s connected mobility platform, which provides real-time vehicle monitoring, diagnostics and fleet management capabilities.
Strengthening public transport electrification
The order brings together Switch Mobility, Antony Road Transport Solutions and Delhi’s public transport authorities for a large-scale electric bus deployment.
Switch Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, has deployed more than 3,000 electric buses globally, which have collectively covered over 200 million kilometres. Its electric light commercial vehicle portfolio has also crossed 3,000 vehicles on the road.
The company said the Delhi order further reinforces its focus on delivering electric mobility solutions for cities and operators seeking cleaner, efficient and commercially viable public transportation.
