Decathlon Targets ₹1,000 Cr Kiprun Running Sport Business By 2030

CW Bureau ·

Decathlon India has unveiled an ambitious growth strategy for its expert running sub-brand Kiprun, targeting running sport turnover of more than ₹1,000 crore by 2030 as it seeks to serve over 5 million active runners across India.

The sports retailer said the strategy will focus on expanding its performance running portfolio, product innovation and engagement with India’s growing running community.

35 new products this year
Kiprun by Decathlon is introducing 35 new running products this year, including 17 high-performance running shoes designed for runners across different levels. The company said a broader product pipeline is already under development to sustain growth in the coming years.

The portfolio spans high-performance running shoes, apparel, hydration packs, trail-running gear and accessories, giving Kiprun a presence across multiple requirements of the sport.

Running market expands
The expansion comes as running gains wider participation in India, supported by the growth of organised race events and running communities across cities. Decathlon said it expects advanced product engineering and community engagement to play a key role in capturing the expanding market.

According to IMARC Group, India’s running gear market grew from $2.5 billion in 2025 to $2.7 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach $4.9 billion by 2034.

Demand is increasingly being supported by technical innovations such as advanced cushioning, responsive foam technologies and carbon-infused footwear.

Kiprun aims to become a destination for runners
“India is at an inflection point in its sports journey; running is rapidly evolving from a niche fitness activity into a mainstream, community-led movement. Our Kiprun vision for India is to become the 1st Destination for Runners in India, championing true sportivity across the nation and making running a daily, healthy habit that nurtures holistic wellbeing for millions of Indians,” Decathlon Sports India, Country Sports Leader-Running, Bruno Araujo, said.

Performance footwear at the centre
Kiprun’s expansion strategy places performance footwear and technical innovation at the centre of its growth plans. The company said its products are designed to cater to runners ranging from beginners to high-performance athletes.

“As a dedicated, technical running brand validated by professional runners and athletes across the world, our ambition is to scale our turnover past ₹1,000 crore by 2030, serving over 5 million active runners,” Decathlon Sports India, Sports Director, Hans Peter Jensen, said.

He added that the strategy will centre on performance footwear innovation alongside expert-guided customer experiences across Decathlon’s stores and digital channels.

Building a wider running ecosystem
Decathlon expects the combination of a wider technical product range, new footwear launches and deeper engagement with runners to support Kiprun’s expansion as India’s organised running ecosystem grows.

The company said its long-term ambition is to make running a more accessible and regular sporting activity while strengthening Kiprun’s position within Decathlon’s broader multi-sport strategy in India.
