Kalyan Jewellers India Ltd, a jewellery retailer with a significant presence in Tamil Nadu, has supplied 38,550 one-gram gold rings to the Tamil Nadu government under the Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam (Maternal Uncle Gold Ring Scheme).
The rings are being distributed to babies born in government hospitals and primary health centres across the State from June 22, 2026.
The scheme was launched by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai on September 28.
Rings manufactured and hallmarked
The rings were manufactured, hallmarked and delivered to locations designated by the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC), as specified under the supply contract.
Kalyan Jewellers was awarded 30% of the first batch of 1,28,499 rings, amounting to 38,550 units.
Each ring is packed with a blister card and baby-care kit. The blister card carries the Tamil Nadu Government logo, a portrait of the Chief Minister and the name of the scheme.
Scheme covers newborns in government facilities
The Thaimaaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam provides a one-gram gold ring to eligible babies born in government healthcare institutions. The scheme is intended to honour motherhood, celebrate childbirth and encourage deliveries in government healthcare facilities.
The rings are part of the State’s wider programme covering babies born in government hospitals and primary health centres from June 22 onwards. The date coincides with the Chief Minister’s birthday.
Kalyan contributes to statewide rollout
The rings supplied by Kalyan Jewellers form part of the first phase of the statewide distribution programme. Joyalukkas was awarded the remaining 70% of the first batch under the procurement arrangement.
“Gold has always been an integral part of Tamil family traditions, particularly when welcoming a newborn. We are honoured to have contributed to the Thaimaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam and to have played a part in creating this special keepsake for thousands of children across Tamil Nadu,” Kalyan Jewellers India, Managing Director, T.S. Kalyanaraman, said.
