CW Bureau ·

Vedanta Power Ltd, a leading power producer in India, recorded its highest-ever quarterly power sales of 5,593 million units (MU) in Q2 FY2027, marking a 26% year-on-year (YoY) increase, as improved plant performance and higher availability across its portfolio supported strong growth.

The company’s power sales for the first half of FY2027 stood at 10,817 MU, up 32% YoY, reflecting stronger utilisation of its existing generation assets and higher contributions from key plants.

Meenakshi Energy doubles sales
Meenakshi Energy emerged as one of the key growth drivers, with Q2 power sales more than doubling to 1,470 MU, an increase of 111% YoY. For H1 FY2027, the plant recorded sales of 2,820 MU, up 160% YoY.

The growth comes with the operations of the expanded 1,000 MW capacity base, which has strengthened Meenakshi Energy’s contribution to Vedanta Power’s generation portfolio.

Jharsuguda sees sharp turnaround
The Jharsuguda Thermal Plant also reported a significant improvement, with Q2 power sales rising 186% YoY to 873 MU. H1 sales increased 59% YoY to 1,559 MU.

A sharp improvement in plant availability supported the turnaround. The plant’s Plant Availability Factor (PAF) rose to 98% in Q2 FY2027 from 43% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The higher availability enabled the plant to increase generation and power sales during the quarter.

Talwandi Sabo maintains steady performance
The Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant continued to provide a stable operating base for the portfolio. Q2 power sales increased 6% YoY to 2,945 MU, while H1 sales stood at 5,668 MU, up 3% YoY.

The plant recorded an 86% availability level in H1 FY2027, remaining above the 80% normative availability level under its Power Purchase Agreement with the Punjab State Government.

Portfolio utilisation strengthens
The 32% increase in H1 power sales reflects stronger utilisation of Vedanta Power’s existing portfolio, aided by improved availability and increased contributions from Meenakshi Energy and Jharsuguda.

With 10,817 MU of power sales in H1 FY2027, the company said it remains focused on delivering reliable power while supporting India’s growing and evolving energy requirements.
