At a time when luxury hospitality is increasingly moving beyond accommodation to offer experiences built around culture, design and exclusivity, Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences in London is positioning its signature suites as destinations in their own right.
Set within a historic residence once home to courtiers of Buckingham Palace, the property combines residential-style luxury with Taj’s hospitality. Its distinctive suites, including the Cinema Suite and Jaguar Suite, bring together craftsmanship, heritage and highly personalised design to create experiences aimed at the premium luxury traveller.
Cinema becomes a luxury experience
Designed by celebrated Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, The Cinema Suite transforms a stay into a journey through the history of Hollywood and Indian cinema.
The interiors draw on cinematic legends and movements spanning continents and generations. The study takes inspiration from filmmakers such as Satyajit Ray, Francis Ford Coppola and Ingmar Bergman, while the living room reflects the work of directors including Majid Majidi, Wong Kar-Wai and Pedro Almodóvar.
The bedrooms bring together the glamour associated with Rita Hayworth and Marilyn Monroe with influences from Indian and colonial-era cinema, including Guru Dutt and Merchant Ivory.
Adding to the experience is a library featuring more than 300 films, turning the suite into a private cinematic retreat rather than simply another luxury accommodation option.
Jaguar brings automotive design into hospitality
The Jaguar Suite takes a different route, marrying luxury hospitality with automotive design. The suite is the result of a collaboration between Taj and Jaguar and is described as the world’s only Jaguar Suite.
Designed by former Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, the space incorporates materials and visual cues associated with Jaguar automobiles. Leather, metal and high-gloss veneer feature prominently, while auto-inspired artwork reinforces the connection with the marque.
A clean-fuel fireplace draws inspiration from Jaguar’s signature rear window, while ebony veneer doors and bespoke Jaguar wallpaper add to the automotive character. Details including Jaguar wave and trapeze motifs, along with curated collector’s pieces, complete the design narrative.
Selling access, not just accommodation
The suites reflect a wider shift in luxury hospitality towards experiential stays, where design, cultural associations and exclusivity become part of the value proposition.
At Taj 51 Buckingham Gate, guests can combine the distinctive suites with the property’s Suite Surprises offer, which provides savings of up to 25%, along with daily breakfast, airport transfers, lounge access, early check-in and other privileges.
The proposition is therefore built around more than a London address. By combining historic surroundings with collaborations spanning cinema, fashion, art and automotive design, Taj 51 Buckingham Gate is seeking to make the stay itself the centrepiece of the luxury experience.
