Air India and Tata Communications have launched EasyRoam, an Air India-branded travel SIM designed to provide international roaming connectivity to passengers travelling abroad.
Developed in partnership with Tata Communications, EasyRoam is available as both a physical SIM and eSIM through a dedicated Air India-branded webpage. The service allows Air India customers to access voice and data services while travelling internationally.
Roaming packs start at ₹241
As part of the inaugural rollout, the EasyRoam SIM is being offered free of cost, although customers will have to pay for roaming packs.
The packs currently cover 30 countries across North America, Europe, including the UK, Australia, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Prices start at ₹241, excluding taxes, with the final cost varying according to the destination and plan selected.
Customers purchasing a data plan can also receive up to 1GB of additional complimentary data. The offer is applicable across all covered countries except the Maldives and Mauritius.
Air India and Tata Communications plan to progressively expand EasyRoam’s coverage to as many as 190 countries. Travellers will be able to choose between destination-specific and worldwide plans, with data-only as well as voice and data options.
Connectivity built into the travel journey
The service is designed to allow travellers to purchase and activate connectivity before departure, helping them get online soon after arriving at their destination.
“Today’s travellers expect travel experience to be seamless, instant and secure,” said Tata Communications, Executive Vice President – Interaction Fabric, Vivek Manglik.
“Through our collaboration with Air India, we’re bringing travel connectivity into the booking journey itself, enabling customers to choose and activate their mobile plan before departure and go online the moment they arrive,” he said.
EasyRoam is also designed to provide greater visibility over mobile usage, with notifications and alerts helping customers monitor consumption and manage costs while overseas.
Customers can retain their number
Air India customers opting for the SIM can retain their mobile number for up to one year at a nominal cost.
Tata Communications’ global network footprint and partnerships with more than 600 mobile network operators will support connectivity across destinations and allow travellers to select plans based on their travel requirements.
Air India, Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, said the service addresses the growing need for uninterrupted digital connectivity among international travellers.
“Today’s travellers increasingly live, work and socialise across borders, and they expect uninterrupted access to the digital services that power their daily lives,” he said.
EasyRoam, he added, is intended to help customers stay connected without the need to arrange connectivity after reaching their destination.
Air India website to offer EasyRoam
EasyRoam is currently available for purchase through the Air India website and will subsequently be made available through the Air India mobile app.
The launch expands Air India’s ancillary services beyond air travel, while giving its international passengers an option to arrange mobile connectivity as part of their travel journey.
