Ashok Leyland Ltd, the Hinduja Group’s flagship commercial vehicle manufacturer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB) to provide customised financing solutions to customers purchasing its trucks and buses.
The partnership aims to improve access to vehicle loans, offer flexible repayment options and simplify financing for transport operators, fleet owners and other commercial vehicle buyers.
Under the agreement, TMB will provide end-to-end financial solutions to Ashok Leyland customers, leveraging its banking network and relationships with businesses across India, particularly in southern markets.
The collaboration is also expected to support commercial vehicle sales by making financing more accessible to customers seeking to expand their transport operations or replace existing vehicles.
Financing to support truck and bus buyers
The MoU was signed by Ashok Leyland Vice President, Finance Neelakantan and TMB Executive Vice President and Country Head, Credit R Ananda Ganesan.
The signing ceremony was attended by TMB Managing Director and CEO Salee S. Nair, Executive Director M. D. Vincent and Vice President – Credit Vijaya Kumar. Ashok Leyland was represented by Head – Sales Finance D. S. Madhusudhan and Whole-Time Director and Chief Financial Officer K. M. Balaji, among others.
Ashok Leyland Whole-Time Director and CFO K. M. Balaji said financing played an important role in enabling customers to invest in commercial vehicles and expand their businesses.
He said the partnership would strengthen the company’s customer-focused approach by facilitating greater access to finance for buyers of its trucks and buses.
Balaji added that Ashok Leyland looked forward to building a meaningful, long-term association with TMB.
Focus on faster loan processing and flexible repayments
Ashok Leyland Senior Vice President and National Head – Sales, Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Madhavi Deshmukh said access to financing was an important element in supporting customers’ business requirements.
She said the partnership would provide another avenue for customers to secure timely financing, with tailored offerings suited to their operational needs.
The collaboration is also intended to improve vehicle penetration across regions by offering customers more convenient financing options and faster turnaround times.
For commercial vehicle buyers, loan availability and repayment structures can influence purchasing decisions, particularly when vehicles are being acquired to generate revenue through freight transportation, passenger services or fleet expansion.
The proposed financing arrangements are expected to address varying customer requirements through flexible repayment options.
TMB network offers reach across rural and semi-urban markets
Founded in 1921, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank has a network of more than 600 branches, with a significant presence in rural and semi-urban centres.
The bank has established relationships with micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), traders and agricultural customers, particularly in Tamil Nadu and other southern markets.
The partnership will seek to leverage this customer base and regional reach to extend financing support to commercial vehicle buyers.
TMB Managing Director and CEO Salee S. Nair said the bank was delighted to partner with Ashok Leyland, a leading name in India’s commercial vehicle industry.
He said TMB would offer tailored financing solutions supported by streamlined processes and customer-focused services.
By combining the bank’s banking network with Ashok Leyland’s market presence, the partnership aims to support business expansion and improve access to mobility for transport operators and fleet owners.
Partnership targets commercial vehicle market
Ashok Leyland offers a broad portfolio of commercial vehicles, ranging from light commercial vehicles for intercity operations to heavy-duty trucks for long-haul transportation and buses for passenger mobility.
The company has also been developing vehicles powered by alternative fuels as part of efforts to support cleaner transportation.
The financing partnership with TMB adds another channel through which prospective buyers can access funding for vehicle purchases.
For Ashok Leyland, the arrangement could help address financing-related barriers to vehicle acquisition, while TMB gains an opportunity to expand its lending relationships with commercial vehicle operators and businesses.
The companies have not disclosed specific loan disbursement targets, financing volumes or the financial terms of the partnership.
