Airfloa Rail Technology Ltd, an engineering and manufacturing company serving the railway, metro, aerospace and defence sectors, has secured a ₹34.85-crore contract from Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, for the interior design of the Vande Bharat sleeper trainset.

The company, in consortium with Italy-based BLUE Engineering S.r.l., will undertake the assignment as the lead consortium member. Airfloa said it was the first Indian company to secure an interior design contract of this scale in the history of Indian Railways.

Contract covers design and development

The contract comprises ₹30.93 crore for comprehensive interior design of the Vande Bharat sleeper trainset and ₹3.93 crore for associated development work.

The entire scope of work is scheduled to be completed within 12 months from the date of issuance of the Letter of Acceptance.

Expands railway engineering capabilities

The contract expands Airfloa’s role in the railway sector beyond its established activities in railway interiors, seating and furnishings to include specialised interior design and development work for a major passenger rail programme.

The assignment also strengthens the company’s engagement with ICF Chennai and provides an opportunity to demonstrate its technical capabilities in a specialised engineering project.

Focus on specialised projects

Airfloa said the contract aligns with its strategy of strengthening its core railway business through technical execution, quality and participation in specialised engineering assignments.

Through the consortium partnership, the company aims to build on its existing railway capabilities and expand its presence in the engineering and design segments of the sector.
