Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has unveiled the India-spec BAYON, an intelligent utility vehicle featuring generative artificial intelligence (AI), advanced connected-car technology and over-the-air software updates, ahead of its scheduled launch on October 26, 2026.
Bookings for the new SUV are open at authorised Hyundai dealerships and through the company’s website, with a booking amount of ₹11,000. Deliveries are scheduled to commence during the festive season, with detailed timelines to be announced at launch.
Positioned around the philosophy of “Intelligence That Moves”, the BAYON introduces several technology features, including Hyundai Motor India’s first generative AI voice assistant, an NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) and support for remote software updates across up to 19 vehicle controllers.
The announcement highlights Hyundai’s focus on integrating AI and digital technologies into the driving experience, enabling customers to access information, control vehicle functions and receive software enhancements through connected systems.
Generative AI voice assistant takes centre stage
The BAYON’s key technology feature is a generative AI voice assistant incorporating intelligence from Perplexity and voice AI technology powered by SoundHound AI.
Unlike conventional voice recognition systems that primarily depend on predefined commands, the assistant is designed to understand conversational requests and provide relevant responses.
Drivers can use it to plan road trips, obtain weather updates, find hotels and restaurants at their destinations, identify nearby shopping centres and access sports scores and information.
The feature aims to make interactions with the vehicle more intuitive by allowing drivers to seek information through natural conversations rather than relying exclusively on specific voice commands.
The SUV also supports more than 500 embedded voice commands in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu. These commands enable users to access several frequently used vehicle functions without an internet connection.
NVIDIA-powered digital cockpit
The BAYON features a Connected Car Navigation Cockpit accelerated by NVIDIA, integrating navigation, connected services and vehicle controls into a unified digital interface.
The system offers online onboard navigation, personalised controls, split-screen functionality and quick-access settings designed to simplify the use of infotainment and vehicle functions.
Its digital cockpit features dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays, combining driving information, navigation, entertainment and connected services in a single visual environment.
Individual user profiles and personalised controls are also designed to enhance convenience and tailor the digital experience to customer preferences.
Over-the-air updates for vehicle systems
The BAYON supports over-the-air updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers, allowing compatible software enhancements to be delivered remotely without requiring customers to visit a dealership for every update.
The technology is intended to help the vehicle’s software ecosystem evolve after purchase, enabling feature improvements and other updates as they become available.
Remote updates could also reduce the need for certain service visits, although the applicability of individual updates will depend on the systems involved and the nature of the enhancement.
More than 70 connected features
The SUV comes with Hyundai Bluelink, which offers more than 70 connected features covering vehicle monitoring, remote controls, navigation, safety and security.
The features include remote start and stop, access to vehicle information, remote vehicle controls, smartphone and smartwatch connectivity, and location-related services.
The system is designed to extend the connection between the vehicle and its owner beyond the driver’s seat, allowing customers to access selected vehicle functions through compatible devices.
Hyundai has also incorporated a multilingual interface supporting 10 regional and two international languages across the infotainment and instrument cluster screens.
The language options are intended to make vehicle information and digital functions more accessible to India’s diverse customer base.
115 PS petrol engine
Powering the Hyundai BAYON is a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS, equivalent to 84.4 kW, and 144 Nm of torque.
Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and Hyundai’s Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).
The powertrain combines conventional petrol-engine technology with the SUV’s extensive digital and connected features, offering buyers a choice between manual and automatic-style transmission options.
Launch and booking details
Hyundai Motor India will launch the BAYON on October 26, 2026. Customers can book the SUV for ₹11,000 through authorised Hyundai dealerships or the company’s official website.
The company has not specified the model’s prices in the announcement. Pricing, variant-wise features and detailed delivery schedules are expected to be communicated at the time of launch.
The BAYON’s combination of generative AI, connected services, remote software updates and a conventional petrol powertrain places technology at the centre of Hyundai’s latest offering for the Indian market.
