Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group’s flagship commercial vehicle manufacturer, has partnered with Union Bank of India (UBI) to provide customised financing solutions to customers purchasing its trucks and buses, aiming to improve access to vehicle loans for fleet operators and businesses across the country.
Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the public sector bank will offer end-to-end financing solutions with flexible repayment options tailored to customers’ requirements.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Ashok Leyland’s sales reach by leveraging Union Bank of India’s banking network to make its commercial vehicles more accessible to businesses.
The MoU was signed by Neelakantan, Vice President – Finance at Ashok Leyland, and Alok Kumar, General Manager and Zonal Head at Union Bank of India. D. S. Madhusudhan, Head – Sales Finance, and Kapil Pandya, Head – Retail and Inventory Finance – LCV, at Ashok Leyland were also present.
Financing to support commercial vehicle buyers
Commercial vehicle purchases typically involve significant capital expenditure for fleet operators, transport businesses and individual entrepreneurs. Access to financing and manageable repayment schedules can influence purchasing decisions, particularly for customers expanding their fleets or replacing older vehicles.
The partnership aims to simplify the financing process by offering customer-specific loan solutions through Union Bank of India’s network.
Ashok Leyland Whole-Time Director and Chief Financial Officer K M Balaji said the partnership would improve access to the company’s commercial vehicle portfolio for businesses across India.
He said the collaboration would leverage Union Bank of India’s network while supporting customers through financing solutions for vehicles designed to deliver efficiency, productivity and competitive total cost of ownership.
Focus on fleet operators and businesses
Ashok Leyland Senior Vice President and National Sales Head – Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles, Madhavi Deshmukh said the partnership was intended to make the company’s trucks and buses more accessible through convenient financing options.
She said the collaboration would provide fleet operators and businesses with greater financial flexibility while supporting a smoother vehicle ownership experience.
The financing arrangement covers Ashok Leyland’s broader commercial vehicle portfolio, which includes light commercial vehicles, long-haul trucks and buses serving different transportation requirements.
For customers, financing availability can be particularly important when adding vehicles to a fleet, as the timing of loan repayments needs to be aligned with operating cash flows generated through freight movement and passenger transportation.
Union Bank targets commercial vehicle financing demand
Union Bank of India General Manager and Zonal Head Alok Kumar said the partnership reflected the bank’s commitment to providing accessible and customised financial solutions to businesses.
He said the collaboration would seek to simplify commercial vehicle ownership and help customers strengthen their businesses and pursue growth opportunities.
The agreement brings together a commercial vehicle manufacturer and a public sector lender to address financing requirements in the transport sector. However, the companies have not disclosed a target for loan disbursements, the proposed interest rates, or the size of the financing portfolio under the partnership.
