Gopalan Aerospace India Pvt Ltd (GAIPL), part of Gopalan Enterprises, has launched a new production line at its Hoskote facility near Bengaluru and signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Czech partners to explore technology and manufacturing collaborations across aerospace, defence and advanced engineering.
The developments come as the company seeks to expand its manufacturing capabilities, move into higher-value programmes and strengthen its participation in global aerospace supply chains.
The production-line launch was attended by Karel Havlíček, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, and C Prabhakar, Director, Gopalan Enterprises.
The five MoUs cover fire-extinguishing solutions, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), thermoreflective coating technology, unmanned traffic management systems and jet-powered UAVs. The agreements provide a framework for exploring technology partnerships, industrial cooperation and potential manufacturing opportunities. Specific commitments and outcomes will depend on further discussions between the partners.
$40 million investment in manufacturing
GAIPL has invested approximately $40 million in its 10.5-acre Hoskote facility, which houses more than 150,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing infrastructure.
Its capabilities include precision computer numerical control (CNC) machining, sheet metal fabrication, advanced composites, aerostructures and complex assemblies. The company offers both Build-to-Print and Build-to-Spec manufacturing solutions.
Certified to AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015, with Nadcap accreditations for composites and welding, GAIPL serves customers and programmes associated with HAL, IAI, L&T, DRDO, TASL, ISRO, NAL, Expleo and ECIL, besides the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.
“India’s aerospace and defence ambitions demand more than manufacturing capacity — they require the ability to engineer and deliver increasingly complex systems to global standards,” said Gopalan Enterprises Director, C Prabhakar.
He said the investment would strengthen the company’s ambition to evolve from a manufacturing supplier into a strategic capability partner for global aerospace and defence companies.
$50 million revenue potential
GAIPL’s aerospace business currently generates approximately $20 million in annual revenue. The company is targeting 50% year-on-year growth over the next three to five years, while the Hoskote facility is projected to generate approximately $50 million in annual revenue at planned capacity.
Its growth strategy includes expanding manufacturing capabilities, securing higher-value programmes, deepening partnerships with global original equipment manufacturers and pursuing exports.
The company has also been working on indigenous loitering munition UAV systems for the past three years and is exploring international collaborations involving drone technology, technology transfer, joint development and manufacturing.
The India-Czech engagement is expected to open avenues for cooperation in specialised aerospace and defence technologies, although the commercial scope of the MoUs remains subject to subsequent agreements.
