Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has launched Sony VIZHA, a Tamil entertainment platform, marking its entry into the regional entertainment market with distribution support from leading cable and direct-to-home (DTH) operators and advertising partnerships with Gold Winner, TTK Prestige and ATM – Akshaya Thanga Maligai.
The channel, built around the philosophy ‘Ithu Namma Vibe’, is now available across leading cable and DTH platforms, with support from local cable operators (LCOs) to expand its reach among Tamil-speaking households across India.
The launch gives SPNI an entry into Tamil entertainment, with a content portfolio spanning fiction, reality shows, music, comedy and movies. The company aims to combine Tamil cultural themes with contemporary storytelling and adaptations of internationally acclaimed entertainment formats.
Distribution and advertising partnerships
Sony VIZHA has secured early advertising partnerships with Gold Winner, TTK Prestige and ATM – Akshaya Thanga Maligai, providing the new platform with brand support as it establishes its presence in the market.
The partnerships offer advertisers an opportunity to reach Tamil audiences through a new entertainment destination, while the channel’s distribution network is expected to help it build a wider audience base.
SPNI is positioning Sony VIZHA around Tamil culture and traditions while seeking to reflect the changing aspirations and preferences of viewers. Its programming strategy covers multiple entertainment genres to appeal to a diverse audience.
Focus on Tamil audiences
Sony Pictures Networks India, Chief Content Officer – South Regional, Rajaraman S said the launch marked an important step in the company’s ambition to build a distinctive Tamil entertainment offering.
“The strong support from our distribution and advertising partners reflects their confidence in our proposition and the opportunity we see in this market,” he said.
The company’s focus is on reaching Tamil audiences across the world with entertainment rooted in Tamil culture and reflective of their evolving aspirations, while creating opportunities for brands to connect with them, Rajaraman added.
Sony VIZHA’s market entry comes with distribution and advertiser backing in place, as SPNI seeks to establish a distinct position in Tamil entertainment through a mix of regional storytelling and global formats.
