Norton Motorcycles has won the Red Dot: Best of the Best award for its Manx R motorcycle in the Cars and Motorcycles category at the 2026 Red Dot Award: Design Concept, strengthening the British marque’s positioning as a modern luxury performance brand.

The award is one of the competition’s highest distinctions and recognises the design and engineering direction behind Norton’s resurgence. It follows the Manx R’s recognition at the 2026 International Design Excellence Awards.

Design combines heritage and modernity
The Manx R reflects Norton’s design philosophy through clean surfaces, carefully balanced proportions and a forward-focused stance. Its fairing, fuel tank and tail form a unified silhouette, while exposed mechanical components serve as distinctive design elements.

The motorcycle also features premium finishes, tactile controls and concealed fixings, with an emphasis on materials and detailing intended to enhance its visual appeal and rider experience.

Drawing inspiration from fine watchmaking, Norton has incorporated precision and intricate detailing into functional components, treating them as integral parts of the motorcycle’s design.

Four principles shape the Manx R
The Manx R embodies four core design principles: modernity, integration, drama and connection.

Its creative direction was shaped with Professor Gerry McGovern OBE, Chief Creative Advisor to Norton Motorcycles, and executed by Head of Design Simon Skinner alongside the company’s in-house design and engineering teams.

The objective was to combine Norton’s heritage with a contemporary design language, creating a motorcycle that retains the marque’s distinctive character while presenting a vision for its future.

Accepting the award, Norton Motorcycles Head of Design Simon Skinner said the recognition belonged to the entire team behind the Manx R.

“With the Manx R, we set out to create a motorcycle with unmistakable presence, where proportion, reductive design and every detail contribute to its desirability,” Skinner said.

He added that the award recognised the team’s creativity and commitment to bringing a distinctive expression of modernity to motorcycling.

Retail design extends Norton’s brand vision
Norton’s design ambitions extend beyond its motorcycles. The company is collaborating with architecture and design firm Foster + Partners on a new global retail concept.

The initiative applies similar principles of sculptural form, material quality and attention to detail to customer environments, aiming to establish a consistent brand identity across its products and retail spaces.

The Red Dot: Best of the Best recognition, alongside the International Design Excellence Awards honour, adds to Norton’s efforts to establish itself in the luxury performance motorcycle segment through distinctive design and an integrated customer experience.
