Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a garment manufacturing facility of Arvind Ltd in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, marking the textile company’s entry into manufacturing in the State with an investment of about ₹150 crore.

The greenfield facility has an annual revenue potential of ₹250 crore and is expected to generate employment for more than 1,000 people, predominantly women.

Spread across 5.5 acres, the plant has a built-up area of 65,000 sq. ft. and will manufacture knitwear using advanced automated sewing technologies.

Facility strengthens vertical integration

The new unit will forward-integrate Arvind’s in-house knitted fabric production into garment manufacturing. This is expected to help the company increase its share of business with existing customers and strengthen customer relationships.

The project marks a strategic step in expanding Arvind’s garmenting business while leveraging its existing textile manufacturing capabilities.

Automated systems support production

The facility has been developed as a modern manufacturing hub focused on efficiency, sustainability and workforce welfare. Its automated production systems are designed to improve productivity, maintain consistent quality and support scalable operations.

The plant is expected to strengthen Arvind’s ability to meet demand for knitwear products while improving integration across its textile value chain.

Women to form significant workforce

“We are particularly proud that this investment will create large-scale employment opportunities, with women expected to form a significant part of the workforce, reflecting the transformative power of Nari Shakti in driving India’s growth story,” Arvind Chairman, Sanjay Lalbhai, said.

Uttar Pradesh eyes apparel growth

“India is at an inflection point in its apparel manufacturing journey. With a strong textile value chain, a skilled workforce and growing global demand for diversified sourcing, the country is well positioned to emerge as a preferred manufacturing destination for the world,” Arvind Vice-Chairman, Punit Lalbhai, said.

Arvind Ltd, Vice-Chairman, Kulin Lalbhai, said Uttar Pradesh was well positioned to strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem, create employment and attract long-term investment.

Local economy expected to benefit

Besides generating more than 1,000 direct jobs, the facility is expected to support ancillary economic activity in supply chains, logistics and local services. It is also expected to contribute to skill development and strengthen Varanasi’s apparel manufacturing ecosystem.
