HCLTech Opens Two Semiconductor Engineering Centres For Rapidus

CW Bureau ·

HCLTech, a leading global technology company, and Rapidus Corporation, a Japanese company developing and manufacturing advanced logic semiconductors, have inaugurated two development centres in Bengaluru and Hubballi to support Rapidus’ semiconductor engineering requirements.

The centres will strengthen collaboration between the two companies as Rapidus advances its plans to establish next-generation semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in Japan.

Centres to support chip design

The facilities will draw on HCLTech’s engineering expertise to provide a range of semiconductor engineering services. These include mask design, design infrastructure, process design kit development, design technology co-optimisation and layout design.

The centres will support Rapidus’ evolving technical requirements and contribute to the development of engineering capabilities for advanced semiconductor manufacturing.

Focus on Indian engineering talent

HCLTech will also work with Rapidus to build a pipeline of Indian engineering talent to meet the Japanese company’s evolving workforce requirements in Japan.

“Building a strong engineering ecosystem is essential as Rapidus advances our mission to establish next-generation semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in Japan,” Rapidus Corporation, Representative Director and CEO, Atsuyoshi Koike, said.

Management comment

“Through this collaboration with HCLTech, we expect to access India’s growing pool of semiconductor engineering talent and establish dedicated development capabilities that complement our operations in Japan,” he said.

India-Japan technology partnership

“Advanced semiconductors will define the technologies of the next decade,” HCLTech, CEO and Managing Director, C. Vijayakumar, said.

“This partnership reflects the growing strategic collaboration between Japan and India, bringing together Rapidus’ next-generation semiconductor ambitions with HCLTech’s engineering expertise to accelerate chip adoption, compress time-to-market and lay the foundations for the next era of semiconductor innovation,” he said.

The development centres strengthen HCLTech’s role in semiconductor engineering while supporting Rapidus’ efforts to build the technical ecosystem required for advanced chip manufacturing.
