DHL IT Services, the technology organisation of global logistics major DHL Group, has opened a 1,04,000 sq ft office at One Radial in Chennai, expanding its technology operations in India with additional capacity for up to 800 employees.
The new facility, which will operate alongside the company’s existing Chennai office, is part of DHL IT Services’ continued investment in India’s technology talent, digital capabilities and long-term growth. With approximately 776 seats, the facility takes the organisation’s total workforce capacity in Chennai to around 1,000.
DHL IT Services India currently employs 1,600 people across Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Indore, compared with approximately 500 in 2020, reflecting more than threefold growth in six years.
India has emerged as an important technology delivery and innovation hub for DHL Group, with teams supporting the technology infrastructure that powers its logistics operations across more than 220 countries and territories.
Chennai anchors India’s technology operations
Chennai remains DHL IT Services’ largest Indian location and the centre of its technology operations in the country. The company said the city’s established technology ecosystem, university network and availability of skilled digital professionals were key factors behind its continued expansion.
The two-office arrangement in Chennai is also expected to strengthen business continuity, provide greater flexibility in working arrangements and improve collaboration among teams supporting DHL’s global operations.
“India is an integral part of DHL IT Services’ global network of talent. Our continued growth in Chennai leverages technology expertise to power global teams and strengthens critical capabilities in AI, cybersecurity, cloud and automation,” said DHL Group. Executive Vice President and Global Head of IT Services, Supriya Rao Patwardhan, She added that the investment would support the evolving requirements of the global business while helping improve customer experiences, strengthen operational resilience and drive innovation.
Focus on AI, cybersecurity and cloud capabilities
The expansion comes as logistics companies increasingly depend on digital technologies to improve supply chain visibility, operational efficiency and customer experience.
Teams at DHL IT Services’ Indian centres work on artificial intelligence, intelligent automation, cybersecurity, cloud computing, analytics, SAP and enterprise technology platforms.
These capabilities support the technology requirements of DHL Group’s five business divisions: Express, Supply Chain, Forwarding, eCommerce and Post & Parcel.
Rather than functioning solely as an offshore technology support operation, DHL IT Services India works through globally integrated teams with shared responsibility for products, solutions and business outcomes. Its employees combine technology expertise with an understanding of logistics processes and operational requirements.
“Chennai is where our journey in India began, and it continues to play a central role in how we build global technology capabilities for DHL Group,” said Johan Berghs, Senior Vice President, Global Head of Digital Solutions and Head of IT Services India.
He said the expansion would help the company develop critical capabilities, strengthen partnerships with universities and industry, and create career opportunities connecting Indian technology professionals with DHL’s global business.
Indore strengthens talent pipeline
Beyond its established centres in Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru, DHL IT Services has expanded into Indore, which is its newest Indian location.
The Indore centre is intended to broaden the company’s access to technology talent beyond the country’s traditional IT hubs. Its DHL IT Services Indore Training Academy is designed to strengthen the long-term talent pipeline through structured training and development.
The company is also investing in campus recruitment, university partnerships, leadership development and specialist learning communities.
In 2026, DHL IT Services India recruited more than 70 graduates from 11 partner universities. Employees also have access to global learning programmes, international career opportunities and specialist technology communities across DHL Group.
The expansion in Chennai underscores India’s growing importance in DHL’s global technology strategy as the logistics group steps up investments in digital infrastructure, automation and cybersecurity to support its worldwide operations.
