Olectra Greentech, India’s largest electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, has introduced 35 air-conditioned electric buses in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, expanding its presence in the state’s public transportation network.
The buses were inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on November 1, 2026, at a ceremony held at the Divisional Sports Complex in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
The deployment is part of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation’s efforts to modernise the city’s public transport infrastructure. The buses will be operated by Evey Trans, with passenger services scheduled to commence on November 2 across various city routes.
Olectra’s electric bus network crosses 4,500
The latest deployment adds to Olectra’s growing electric bus footprint across the country. The company has more than 4,500 electric buses operating in over 55 cities, which have collectively covered more than 750 million green kilometres.
Olectra Greentech Ltd, Managing Director, Mahesh Babu, said the introduction of the buses was another step towards making clean, reliable and efficient public transportation accessible to more people.
He said the impact of electric mobility should be measured not merely by the number of vehicles deployed but also by improvements in everyday mobility, passenger experience and the environment.
Babu thanked the Maharashtra government and the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation for their continued support and said Olectra remained committed to developing sustainable public transportation solutions.
Blade battery technology and safety features
The newly introduced buses are 9 metres long and powered by blade battery technology. They feature monocoque construction, front and rear air suspension, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), regenerative braking and disc brakes at both ends.
The buses are equipped with several passenger convenience and safety features, including air curtains at both passenger doors, CCTV cameras, digital destination boards and an integrated passenger announcement system.
Other features include vehicle location tracking, USB charging ports and a digital instrument cluster.
Focus on cleaner urban mobility
With zero tailpipe emissions and quieter operations, the electric buses are expected to help reduce dependence on conventional fuels and improve urban air quality.
The deployment strengthens Olectra’s presence in Maharashtra while adding to the adoption of electric public transport across Indian cities.
For Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the introduction of the buses represents an addition to its urban mobility infrastructure, offering commuters an air-conditioned public transport option with technology-enabled safety and passenger information systems.
