CW Bureau ·

Tata Motors and Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco Group have formally embarked on a new chapter as a combined global commercial mobility enterprise, bringing together complementary product portfolios, manufacturing capabilities and international market presence to create the world’s fourth-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. The combined entity has revenues of around €21 billion (over ₹2.28 lakh crore), a presence in more than 130 countries and a workforce of over 73,000 employees.

The development follows Tata Motors’ completion of the initial settlement of its tender offer for Iveco Group, through which it acquired an 89.42% stake in the Italian company, making it an indirect subsidiary.

The two companies marked the beginning of their journey together at a global press meet in Turin, Italy, outlining their ambitions to strengthen their position across global commercial vehicle markets and emerging mobility technologies.

Global footprint across 130 countries
The combined enterprise brings together Tata Motors’ strong position in India and other emerging markets with Iveco Group’s established presence in Europe and other international markets.

The business will have 27 manufacturing facilities and 25 research and development centres, supported by a network of more than 9,300 sales and service centres.

With over 73,000 employees across six continents, the group will have a substantially expanded engineering, manufacturing and distribution network.

Its geographical presence spans Europe, India, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Africa, providing access to both developed and high-growth commercial vehicle markets.

Focus on technology and green mobility
The combination brings together complementary capabilities in advanced powertrains, alternative energy, software, connected technologies and manufacturing.

The companies expect the integration of their engineering and technology capabilities to accelerate the development of cleaner and smarter commercial mobility solutions.

A two-way exchange of technology, engineering expertise and talent is expected to create opportunities to improve product development, manufacturing efficiency and market access.

The companies have also emphasised that their individual brands, identities and industrial foundations will be preserved while exploring new avenues for growth.

Chandrasekaran highlights long-term ambition
Tata Sons, Tata Motors and Iveco Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the combination marked the beginning of a new chapter for the two organisations, united by shared values and a commitment to sustainable mobility.

He said the companies would invest for the long term, facilitate the exchange of ideas and capabilities, and leverage their combined scale and talent to make commercial transportation safer, smarter, more connected and sustainable.

Chandrasekaran also welcomed Iveco Group employees into the Tata family and acknowledged the support of the Italian Government, regulatory authorities, shareholders and other stakeholders in completing the transaction.

Focus on operational integration
Tata Motors MD & CEO Girish Wagh said the company was pleased to translate its strategic vision into an operational reality with Iveco Group.

He highlighted the complementary product portfolios, geographical strengths and technological capabilities of the two companies as a strong foundation for creating value for customers and stakeholders.

The combined enterprise will focus on leveraging engineering, new-age technologies, sourcing, distribution and customer networks to accelerate innovation and expand its global reach.

Wagh also emphasised continuity for customers, dealers and business partners from day one of the combination.

Iveco sees new growth opportunities
Iveco Group, Chief Executive Officer Olof Persson described the combination as a defining moment for the Italian manufacturer.

He said the partnership with Tata Motors would allow Iveco to build on its existing brands, industrial heritage and capabilities while accessing new growth opportunities through the Indian group’s global scale and commercial vehicle expertise.

Persson also underlined the shared commitment to sustainable transport and long-term business development.

Scale creates competitive advantage
The combined enterprise, with revenues exceeding ₹2.28 lakh crore, 27 manufacturing facilities and 25 R&D centres, will have a significant global industrial footprint.

The acquisition gives Tata Motors access to Iveco’s established international operations and product capabilities, while Iveco gains access to Tata Motors’ engineering strengths, manufacturing ecosystem and market presence.

The success of the combination will depend on how effectively the companies integrate their technological capabilities, leverage their distribution networks and identify synergies across markets.

With commercial transportation undergoing a transition towards electrification, alternative fuels, connected vehicles and advanced powertrain technologies, the enlarged group is positioning itself to compete across multiple technology cycles.
