Tata Power Renewable Energy Starts 300 MW Solar Project In Koppal

CW Bureau ·

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a renewable energy subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned a 300 MW solar project for the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in Koppal, Karnataka.

The project has been developed by TP Saurya, a wholly owned subsidiary of TPREL. It is expected to generate 810 million units (MUs) of renewable energy annually and help avoid an estimated 1,03,820 tonnes of carbon emissions every year.

Solar trackers improve generation

The project deploys solar trackers that enable modules to follow the sun’s movement and optimise energy generation.

It also uses TP580HG10NB bifacial modules. The combination of tracking technology and high-efficiency modules is expected to improve site utilisation and enhance power generation. The electricity generated will be supplied to SECI.

Women contribute to project execution

The Koppal project also reflects TPREL’s focus on workforce diversity. Around 16 women professionals account for nearly 40 per cent of the workforce at the project site.

They have taken up key responsibilities, including site managers and site engineers, contributing to technical execution, engineering and team management.

Renewable utility capacity reaches 12 GW

With the commissioning of the project, TPREL’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 12 GW. Around 7.2 GW is operational, comprising 5.8 GW of solar and 1.3 GW of wind capacity, while nearly 4.9 GW is under various stages of implementation.

The company said the project strengthens its portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy assets and supports its focus on technology-led execution and India’s transition towards a low-carbon energy future.
