Hyundai, Radio Mirchi Launch Traffic Quality Index Across 7 Indian Cities

CW Bureau ·

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), in association with Radio Mirchi, has launched the Hyundai Traffic Quality Index (TQI), a real-time traffic rating system aimed at helping commuters better understand urban traffic conditions and make informed travel decisions.

The initiative has been launched across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata, combining live traffic data, on-ground intelligence and official traffic authority advisories.

The TQI converts complex traffic information into a simple colour-coded rating on a scale of 1 to 10, giving commuters an easy-to-understand snapshot of prevailing traffic conditions.

Turning traffic data into actionable intelligence
The initiative is designed to help motorists anticipate congestion, plan journeys and consider alternate routes before and during their drive.

The standardised rating system is inspired by the familiarity of the Air Quality Index (AQI), with Hyundai positioning TQI as a potential daily utility for urban commuters.

HMIL Head, Marketing, Virat Khullar said the company’s road-safety commitment extends beyond vehicles and that TQI is aimed at empowering commuters with actionable information.

“We believe informed and technology enabled decisions lead to safer roads, calmer driving behavior and better commuting experience,” Khullar said, adding that Hyundai aims to evolve TQI into a daily utility used by millions of Indians.

Media, technology and traffic management converge
ENIL CEO Yatish Mehrishi said Radio Mirchi’s city presence, RJs, on-ground teams and local insights would help make traffic information simpler and more useful for commuters.

The initiative has also received support from traffic authorities in the participating cities.

Delhi Traffic Police ACP Ravindra Pandit said timely and accurate traffic updates could help motorists choose alternate routes, reduce inconvenience and ease congestion.

Mumbai West Regional Transport Officer Anil Patil said TQI could help improve awareness of traffic conditions and support more efficient traffic management.

Greater Chennai Police, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic),  Dr. B. Shamoondeswari described TQI as a system similar to AQI for understanding traffic quality and said it could improve awareness and contribute to smoother traffic movement.

A new language for urban traffic
With its 1-to-10 rating and colour-coded framework, Hyundai TQI seeks to create a standardised traffic language that allows commuters to quickly assess road conditions.

For Hyundai, the initiative extends its road-safety proposition from vehicle technology to real-time mobility intelligence, while the partnership with Radio Mirchi brings together automotive technology, media reach and local traffic insights to address an everyday urban challenge
