Avenue Supermarts Ltd, the operator of the DMart supermarket chain, reported a 12.8% year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to ₹936 crore for the first quarter of FY27, driven by steady revenue growth and continued store expansion.
The company’s total revenue for the quarter rose 15.1% to ₹18,343 crore, compared with ₹15,932 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
Operating performance improves
EBITDA for the quarter increased to ₹1,527 crore, up from ₹1,313 crore a year ago, while the EBITDA margin improved marginally to 8.3% from 8.2%.
Profit after tax (PAT) margin stood at 5.1%, compared with 5.2% in the year-ago period, while basic earnings per share (EPS) rose to ₹14.35 from ₹12.75.
DMart continues to follow its everyday low cost–everyday low price strategy, leveraging procurement efficiencies and an optimised supply chain to offer products at competitive prices.
Metro demand remains muted
Avenue Supermarts Ltd, Managing Director & CEO, Anshul Asawa, said the company’s revenue grew 15.1%, while PAT increased 12.8% during the quarter.
He noted that stores operating for more than two years recorded 5.5% growth in Q1 FY27, compared with 7.1% in the corresponding quarter last year.
According to Asawa, growth remained flat in older stores located in large metropolitan markets, where revenue per square foot is significantly higher, while non-metro stores continued to post healthy growth.
The company opened three new DMart stores during the quarter, taking its total network to 503 stores across the country.
DMart Ready sharpens metro focus
Avenue E-Commerce Ltd, Whole Time Director & CEO, Vikram Dasu, said the company continues to refine its operating model while deepening its presence in major metropolitan markets.
During the quarter, DMart Ready discontinued operations in seven cities that made only marginal contributions to the business.
As of June 30, 2026, the online grocery platform operates in 11 cities.
