CW Bureau ·

BMW Group India has reported its highest-ever first-half sales performance, delivering 9,075 cars during January-June 2026, registering a robust 17% year-on-year growth despite challenging market conditions.

The luxury carmaker also maintained the same growth momentum in the second quarter (April-June), selling 4,507 cars, up 17% over the corresponding period last year.

EVs continue to power growth
Electric vehicles emerged as the strongest growth driver for the company during the first half of 2026. BMW Group India delivered 2,359 EVs, marking a sharp 78% year-on-year increase.

The company said it retained its leadership in India’s luxury EV market with a 69% market share. Electric vehicles now account for 26% of BMW Group India’s total car sales, meaning every fourth BMW sold in the country is battery-powered.

Long-wheelbase models gain popularity
Demand for long-wheelbase models continued to surge as customers increasingly preferred vehicles offering greater rear-seat comfort without compromising on performance.

BMW Group India sold 4,428 long-wheelbase cars during the first half, registering 24% growth over the previous year. These models contributed 52% of the company’s overall sales.

SUVs dominate portfolio
Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) remained the backbone of BMW India’s business.

Sales of BMW and MINI SAVs rose 35% year-on-year to 5,926 units, accounting for 65% of total car sales. The company attributed the strong demand to customers’ growing preference for premium SUVs offering performance, luxury and versatility.

MINI records strong momentum
The MINI brand delivered an impressive performance, selling 504 cars during the first half of the year, up 70% year-on-year.

The recently launched MINI Countryman C has witnessed encouraging demand, while special editions including the MINI Cooper S Victory Edition and MINI Convertible JCW Pack were sold out.

Motorrad delivers over 2,300 motorcycles
BMW Motorrad sold 2,327 motorcycles during the first six months of 2026.
Among premium motorcycles above 500 cc, the BMW S 1000 RR, BMW 900 GS/GSA and BMW 1300 GS/GSA remained popular. Deliveries of the newly launched BMW F 450 GS also commenced towards the end of June, with the first production lot already sold out.

Aggressive product pipeline
The company launched 11 new products in the first half of 2026, including the BMW X3 30d, BMW M440i, BMW X6 M60i, MINI Countryman C, BMW F 450 GS and BMW M 1000 R.

BMW Group India plans to sustain its product offensive with 14 additional launches across its three brands before the end of the year.

Retail expansion underway
The company is also expanding its retail footprint under its Retail.NEXT initiative aimed at enhancing the luxury customer experience.

BMW Group India currently operates 100 customer touchpoints across 40 cities and plans to add 19 more outlets across 18 cities during 2026.

Maintaining double-digit growth
BMW Group India, President and CEO, Hardeep Singh Brar said the company has delivered its best-ever first-half performance while maintaining consistent double-digit growth.

He attributed the strong results to growing customer confidence, rising demand for electric vehicles, executive long-wheelbase models and premium SUVs. Brar added that with 14 more product launches planned this year, the company expects to maintain its growth momentum while strengthening its leadership in India’s luxury mobility market.
