Tata Communications has announced strategic investments in subsea cable infrastructure to strengthen digital connectivity between India and Singapore, aiming to meet the growing bandwidth and AI-driven data requirements of enterprises across Asia and global markets.
The company said it has acquired significant fibre capacity and is expanding its subsea network to enhance connectivity between the emerging AI hubs of Mumbai and Chennai in India and Singapore, one of Asia’s leading cloud and AI ecosystems.
Dual investments to expand network capacity
As part of the initiative, Tata Communications is integrating a new subsea cable system between Mumbai and Singapore into its Tata Global Network (TGN). The company is also investing as a consortium member in a new subsea cable system connecting Chennai and Singapore, which is expected to be ready for service in the fourth quarter of 2029.
The company will invest around $63 million in FY27 for 20 Tbps capacity on the MIST cable system connecting Mumbai and Singapore. In addition, it will invest about $89 million between FY27 and FY31 for 78 Tbps capacity on Project CS, linking Chennai and Singapore.
Supporting AI and cloud growth
According to Tata Communications, the India-Singapore subsea route is expected to become one of the world’s most critical digital corridors, providing a high-capacity, low-latency pathway for enterprise, cloud and hyperscaler traffic between India, Southeast Asia and global markets.
The enhanced capacity on the Tata Global Network will enable the company to offer more diverse, scalable and high-performance connectivity solutions while supporting the rapid expansion of data centres and AI-enabled digital infrastructure.
Integration with India’s fibre network
The new cable systems will connect with Tata Communications’ terrestrial fibre network across India, providing seamless connectivity to around 100 data centres nationwide.
The expanded infrastructure will also strengthen the company’s IZO connectivity portfolio, including IZO DC Dynamic Connectivity and IZO Multi-cloud connectivity solutions, offering self-healing, always-on and self-provisioning capabilities across data centre and cloud environments.
Customers will be able to activate network capacity on demand, enabling greater flexibility and scalability for enterprise workloads.

Tata Communications operates one of the world’s largest wholly owned subsea fibre networks, spanning about 500,000 km of subsea optical fibre and 200,000 km of terrestrial fibre, forming the backbone of its global connectivity portfolio.
