Global automotive technology major Valeo has secured a major nomination from one of India’s leading automobile manufacturers to deploy its advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) solution for commercial vehicles in the country.
The global automotive technology company said its Valeo Smart Safety 360 (VSS360) system, tailored specifically for Indian road conditions, will be manufactured at its Sanand facility in Gujarat.
The move marks a significant expansion of Valeo’s ADAS portfolio in India’s commercial vehicle segment, amid rising regulatory focus on vehicle safety and increasing demand for intelligent mobility technologies.
India central to Valeo’s growth strategy
Valeo Brain Division Chief Executive Officer Marc Vrecko said the latest order underlines the company’s ability to deliver advanced safety technologies suited for complex driving environments.
“This award demonstrates how our high-end ADAS technology can perform in the world’s most demanding environments while drastically improving road safety,” said Marc Vrecko.
He added that India remains a key pillar of Valeo’s “Elevate 2028” strategy, with the company focusing on scalable, high-tech and cost-optimized mobility solutions tailored for Indian roads.
Commercial vehicle safety in focus
Valeo India Group President and Managing Director Jayakumar G said the nomination represents an important milestone for the company’s local ADAS ambitions.
“By localising these advanced solutions, we aim to deliver highly competitive products tailored to our customers’ needs,” said Jayakumar
He noted that stronger regulatory momentum is accelerating ADAS adoption in India and pushing the automotive industry towards safer and smarter mobility solutions.
According to the company, its strong manufacturing base and R&D capabilities in India position it well to support domestic automakers with advanced safety technologies.
System tailored for Indian road conditions
Valeo said the VSS360 system has been specifically designed to tackle the unique challenges of Indian mobility, including dense and unpredictable traffic conditions.
The integrated “one-stop-shop” ADAS platform offers multiple safety and driver assistance features, including Moving Off Information System, Blind Spot Information System, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking and Lane Departure Warning.
The system also incorporates Driver Drowsiness and Attention Warning software to monitor driver alertness and reduce fatigue-related accidents.
Local manufacturing and smart architecture
A major highlight of the system is its cost-optimized single-box architecture, where radar fusion is integrated into the smart front camera, reducing the need for multiple Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
Valeo said this approach enables easier integration into existing vehicle architectures while helping automakers improve efficiency and reduce system costs.
The solution uses three radars and one camera developed, manufactured and integrated by Valeo using advanced computer vision technology. It is also designed to comply with upcoming General Safety Regulations in India.
Another key feature is the Univolt Camera, capable of operating across both 12V and 24V vehicle architectures. This allows deployment across a wide range of commercial vehicles, from light commercial vehicles to heavy-duty trucks.
Over-the-air updates add long-term value
Valeo added that the system supports over-the-air software updates, enabling performance improvements and feature enhancements throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
The company believes the combination of localized manufacturing, scalable architecture and advanced safety capabilities will help accelerate ADAS adoption in India’s commercial vehicle market as the sector moves towards stricter safety standards and smarter connected mobility.
