ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has launched two new heavy steel plate brands namely STRUCTROMAX and WELDSTAR, targeting India’s growing infrastructure, construction, manufacturing, energy, transportation and heavy engineering sectors.
Developed at the company’s plate mill facility in Hazira, Gujarat, the new products combine advanced rolling and heat-treatment technologies with stringent metallurgical and quality controls.
The launch comes as demand for high-performance steel products increases across large infrastructure projects, industrial applications and advanced manufacturing.
STRUCTROMAX targets critical infrastructure
STRUCTROMAX has been developed using Thermo-Mechanical Controlled Processing (TMCP), a process designed to enhance the mechanical properties and performance of steel plates.
The product is targeted at applications including bridges, high-rise buildings, offshore projects, railways, wind energy installations and other heavy-duty structures.
According to AM/NS India, STRUCTROMAX offers a combination of weldability, toughness, load-bearing capability, corrosion resistance and fabrication performance.
These properties are aimed at helping engineers and project developers build structures capable of withstanding demanding operating and climatic conditions while meeting the performance requirements of critical infrastructure.
WELDSTAR focuses on weight reduction
WELDSTAR, meanwhile, comprises ultra-high-strength steel plates designed to help engineers reduce structural weight without compromising safety or durability.
The product is primarily targeted at cranes, mining equipment, transportation systems, offshore projects and other critical applications.
The higher strength of the steel is expected to allow equipment manufacturers to optimise weight and increase payload capacity, while potentially improving fuel efficiency and reducing lifecycle operating costs.
For sectors such as mining, logistics and heavy transportation, where equipment weight directly affects operating economics, the use of high-strength steel can provide opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency.
Focus on domestic advanced steel capability
AM/NS India, Director and Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Ranjan Dhar, said India’s next phase of infrastructure and manufacturing growth would require steel solutions offering greater strength, reliability and efficiency for increasingly complex projects.
He said STRUCTROMAX and WELDSTAR expand the range of advanced heavy plate products available to Indian engineers, fabricators and manufacturers while strengthening domestic capabilities for high-value applications.
The company said the two products have been developed with a focus on working closely with customers and addressing evolving requirements across infrastructure, engineering and manufacturing.
Green steel credentials
Sustainability is also a key component of AM/NS India’s heavy plate portfolio.
The company said its heavy plate products are Green Steel Certified with a 3-Star Rating under the Ministry of Steel’s Green Steel Taxonomy introduced in December 2024.
The taxonomy classifies steel based on carbon emissions per tonne of finished steel and provides a standardised, star-rated framework to assess and compare the sustainability performance of steel products.
AM/NS India said the launch of STRUCTROMAX and WELDSTAR strengthens its portfolio of advanced steel solutions for applications ranging from bridges and industrial structures to cranes, mining equipment and transportation systems.
The company expects the new products to contribute to the development of India’s domestic manufacturing ecosystem by providing locally produced high-performance steel for increasingly demanding applications.
