ELGi Equipments Eyes Top 3 Global Compressor Maker Position By 2035

Air compressor manufacturer ELGi Equipments has set an ambitious target of becoming India’s largest compressor manufacturer and among the top three globally by 2035, as it continues to expand its product portfolio, strengthen customer engagement and invest in capacity expansion.

Speaking on the sidelines of INTEC 2026 in Coimbatore, ELGi Equipments Managing Director Dr. Jairam Varadaraj said the company is currently ranked sixth globally and second in India in the air compressor industry.

Focus on energy-efficient technologies
At the 21st edition of INTEC 2026, being held at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex from June 4-8, ELGi is showcasing its latest energy-efficient compressed air technologies, accessories and digitally connected solutions as the event’s Platinum Sponsor.

The company displayed a range of products including the EQ22-7.5 DM, EG37PM-13DV with Integrated Dryer and VFD, EN11-7.5V, EG110 SP, AB22-8V, LD Series Direct Drive Piston Compressors and the Air~Alert IoT-based remote monitoring system.

Dr. Varadaraj said the newly introduced products are designed to help customers reduce operating costs through improved energy efficiency.

“Many of our compressors are among the most energy-efficient in the world. They are engineered to minimize energy consumption while maximizing productivity,” he said.

Growth strategy centred on customer engagement
According to the company, achieving its long-term growth objectives will depend on strengthening customer relationships, expanding global outreach and building long-term partnerships across markets.

Dr. Varadaraj said ELGi will continue to deepen engagement with customers through regular interactions and enhanced market presence across geographies.

India remains the company’s most important market, although ELGi is simultaneously pursuing international expansion opportunities.

₹600 crore investment planned in Coimbatore
As part of its expansion strategy, ELGi is investing ₹600 crore in Coimbatore and relocating its operations from Singanallur to Kinathukadavu.

The company derives around 50% of its revenue from India, while international markets contribute the remaining 50%. Among overseas markets, the United States accounts for nearly 90% of international revenue.

Dr. Varadaraj said ELGi delivered a strong performance in the previous year, supported significantly by growth in the US market, and is targeting sustained growth in the years ahead.

Renewable energy share to rise
On the sustainability front, ELGi said it is working to increase the share of renewable energy in its operations.

Dr. Varadaraj noted that nearly 70% of the company’s energy consumption currently comes from renewable sources, while the balance is derived from fossil fuels. The company aims to increase renewable energy usage to 90% over the coming years.

He added that ELGi remains prepared to navigate global economic uncertainties and industry challenges through swift responses to changing market conditions.
