Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, has announced the signing of a 500-key Taj hotel in Patna, marking a significant addition to its luxury portfolio in eastern India. The greenfield project signals IHCL’s strategic focus on high-growth urban centers and reinforces its expanding footprint in Bihar. The hotel will operate under IHCL’s iconic luxury brand, Taj Hotels, widely regarded as one of the world’s strongest hospitality brands.

A Strategic Bet On Patna’s Growth

IHCL MD & CEO Puneet Chhatwal said that Patna is emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing urban centers, driven by enhanced connectivity and infrastructure upgrades. He noted that the city holds significant potential for large conventions, celebrations, and business travel, making it a compelling destination for premium hospitality investments.

The project also strengthens IHCL’s partnership with Patliputra Palace Pvt. Ltd., reflecting a shared vision for Bihar’s evolving hospitality landscape.

Prime Location with Landmark Views

The upcoming Taj Patna will be strategically located opposite Gandhi Maidan, one of the city’s most prominent landmarks, with the River Ganges flowing to the north of the site. The prime location places the hotel at the heart of the city’s social, cultural, and commercial activities.

Designed to cater to both business and leisure travelers, the 500-room hotel will feature:

  • An all-day dining restaurant
  • Two specialty restaurants
  • A lobby lounge
  • Temperature-controlled swimming pool
  • Fitness centre and recreational facilities
  • Salon and Taj’s signature J Wellness Circle spa

A key highlight will be its expansive banqueting infrastructure, including a 16,000 sq. ft. ballroom and multiple meeting spaces, positioning the property as a leading destination for large conferences, weddings, and social gatherings in the region.

Signaling Premium Infrastructure Growth

Nityanand Sonthalia, Director, Patliputra Palace Pvt. Ltd., said the partnership signals Bihar’s readiness for world-class infrastructure, increased private sector participation, and premium developments under the Taj brand.

Patna, among India’s oldest continuously inhabited cities, serves as a gateway to Bihar’s rich cultural and historic attractions. Landmarks such as Gol Ghar and Bapu Sabhagar reinforce its growing prominence as a cultural and convention hub.

Expanding IHCL’s Bihar Portfolio

With the signing of Taj Patna, IHCL’s portfolio in Bihar will expand to seven hotels, including four currently under development, a clear indicator of the company’s long-term confidence in the state’s economic and tourism growth trajectory.

For the owning entity, Patliputra Palace Pvt. Ltd., part of the Shriram Ozone Group led by Directors Pradeep Kumar Sonthalia and Nityanand Sonthalia, the project aligns with its three-decade legacy of developing high-quality retail, mall, and hospitality assets across Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Bihar.
